Seven Days Before the Apocalypse Chapter 9
Day three of the apocalypse—we'd demolished more than half our snack stash.
Today, we were going out to kill zombies.
Over the past two days, there'd been plenty of carnage below. Grace wasn't as scared as before.
But about killing zombies, she still felt some resistance.
"Rain, it's so dangerous out there. Do we really have to go kill zombies?"
I nodded without hesitation. "Yes. We can't keep hiding. While we still have supplies, we should train ourselves. It'll help."
"But Rain, this is the apocalypse. Aren't you even a little scared?"
Scared? Of course I was scared. But what good did fear do?
Having lived through the apocalypse, I knew full well how terrifying zombies were.
There was only one way to defeat fear—face it head-on.
We couldn't sit around waiting to die. Otherwise, when the zombie horde came, we'd have no choice but to die.
"Grace, I'll take point. You just stay behind me and finish them off."
I pulled a long-handled axe from my space and gave it to Grace, taking a hammer for myself.
These were tools I'd specifically bought from the hardware store owner.
There weren't many zombies in the hallway—just a few.
The nearest was four or five meters away.
She was currently facing away from us, hunched over, shuffling forward.
I slowly approached her, swinging my hammer hard at her head.
My strength was insufficient for a killing blow. The zombie staggered toward me.
Closer and closer—only three meters away.
I prepared for my second swing.
"Ah... nobody messes with my Rain!" Grace, who'd been frozen, suddenly reacted with lightning speed, charging at the zombie with her axe.
The zombie fell, her head hacked to pieces.
Black blood spurted out, splattering on walls and floor everywhere.
I was quite surprised.
This unsharpened axe, through Grace's output, had proven extremely effective.
The other zombies heard the commotion and came at us.
Grace and I gathered our strength and took out the remaining three.
[Crystal Cores Collected: 4]
A line of text suddenly appeared in my mind.
The space shop had unlocked—merchandise displayed like an online store, fully searchable.
Here, one crystal core equaled one hundred dollars.
Special items were extremely expensive and had quantity limits.
For instance, today there was stock of Power Pills.
One Power Pill could boost strength by up to 99%.
Haha, I couldn't even imagine how strong I'd be after taking one.
"Rain, why are you standing there grinning like an idiot?" Grace interrupted my fantasies.
Turning around, I was shocked to see her using the axe to poke through zombie heads.
This scene was unbelievable.
First time killing zombies—I'd expected her to be scared, but instead...
My God, I had no idea Grace was this twisted!
I quickly made her stop.
"Grace, stop poking around. This behavior is seriously disturbing and will ruin my appetite tonight."
She didn't budge, looking up and blinking at me. "Didn't you say crystal cores are useful? I figured I'd dig them out for you."
I did tell her cores were useful, but I didn't tell her to do this!
Then she lowered her head again, seeming to sigh, setting the axe aside.
"These cores are so hard to find. I went through all four heads and couldn't find a single one."
No—that's really not necessary!
"Uh... Grace, you don't need to look anymore. They auto-collect."
That morning, Grace and I cleared out the wandering zombies on the fifth floor. Including those four, we gained 10 crystal cores total.
The Power Pill in the space shop could instantly boost strength by 99%, lasting fifteen minutes, costing 10 cores.
After discussing it, Grace and I decided to buy the Power Pill.
