Lies and Funerals Under the Moon Chapter 18
The former Luna hurriedly said, "I promise, I'll only hire male assistants for him. I won't give him a chance to betray you."
Kate laughed out loud.
"Mrs. Blackwood, do you think a marriage like that is meaningful?"
"I used to love him. I couldn't bear to leave him, so I endured. Even when it hurt like a fishbone in my throat."
"But now, I don't love him anymore."
She took Ryder’s hand.
"Madam, I have someone new. You should advise Liam to move on too."
She didn't look back as she led Ryder away.
At the hospital entrance, Ryder said excitedly, "Kate, did you just admit my status?"
Kate tried to pull her hand back, but Ryder held on tight.
Kate coughed. "A lover is a person too."
Ryder leaned in. His dark eyes were intense, allowing no escape.
"Kate, I don't believe you can't feel it. I don't want to just be your lover. I want to be your man."
Kate felt overwhelmed by his heat.
Ryder grabbed her chin and bit her lip gently.
"I like you. Since the first moment I saw you. I'm not a random guy who picks up women on the street."
"Kate, these four months... we fit perfectly physically, but I like your personality even more."
"I know you were hurt. Body and soul. I was afraid to scare you, so I waited."
"But I want you to know, you can only choose me. Your eyes can only look at me."
He wrapped her in his arms, nose touching nose.
Kate stared at him, flustered by his intensity.
She panicked a little. She didn't know how to respond.
She did like Ryder. She relied on him.
But... she didn't know him well.
"Ryder... I..."
Before she could speak, Ryder kissed her.
A scorching kiss that swallowed all her words.
When Kate collapsed in his arms, panting, Ryder laughed huskily.
"No rush for an answer. We have plenty of time. Slow and steady."
Kate looked at his serious face and nodded, blushing.
Ryder took her home.
Kate heard that Liam and Katrina survived. The baby was in an incubator.
Confirming they wouldn't die and implicate her, she put them out of her mind.
She focused on her company. She thought the Blackwoods would take Liam home.
Unexpectedly, a week later, she stepped out to find Liam at her door.
He must have come straight from the hospital.
He wore a suit, but smelled of antiseptic.
Having lost so much blood, his face was gaunt, his lips pale.
