Their eyes met. Liam smiled bitterly, his eyes humble.

"Kate, can I have a few minutes?"

Fearing rejection, he added quickly, "This is the last time I'll bother you. I'm going back to the pack tomorrow."

Kate clenched her fist. Feeling a sense of finality, she nodded.

"What do you want to say?"

Liam looked at her with longing, then spoke softly.

"I know. Without me, you are living well."

"You didn't need me. I was the one who needed you."

"I didn't cherish you. I got bored with stability and happiness. I wanted a thrill, and I ruined everything."

"I told Katrina I won't be with her."

"I'll give her money. Enough for her and the child to live comfortably."

"I admit, maybe I really had feelings for her, but... I can't keep making mistakes."

His eyes were full of guilt.

"Kate, I know you hate me. I won't bother you again."

"I wish you... happiness in the future."

Even if that happiness had nothing to do with him.

Kate looked at him, remembering when she first caught him.

When she fell off the cliff, his regret had looked just as real.

She believed Liam was sincere right now.

But she dared not believe in his "forever" anymore.

Human hearts change. Especially a man's regret.

Realizing the trust was gone forever, Kate felt a desolate sadness.

She smiled self-deprecatingly. "Thank you."

Liam had a thousand words, but seeing her cold eyes, he couldn't say one.

Red-eyed, he turned and walked away fast.

He had only walked a few steps when a car sped toward him, out of control.

It happened too fast.

Bang!

Liam was sent flying and smashed onto the pavement.

Kate screamed. "Liam!"

She rushed over, kneeling beside him.

She didn't dare touch him.

Liam’s body was twisted. He was convulsing, vomiting blood uncontrollably.

He looked in disbelief at the car.

Inside, Katrina sat crying.

Her forehead had hit the steering wheel, bleeding into her eyes, turning her tears red.

She pushed the door open and walked toward Liam.

Kate frowned. "Katrina, you're crazy! This is murder!"

Katrina smiled. Before reaching Liam, she collapsed, vomiting blood.

She stared at Liam.

"Don't worry. You won't die alone. I took poison on the way here. I'll die with you."

Liam’s pupils shrank. He tried to speak but only choked on blood.

Katrina muttered.

"Liam, why wouldn't you agree to be with me? You are the only light in my world."

"I loved you so much. I became the mistress everyone spat on. I stabbed myself to win your love."

"But just because Kate divorced you, you didn't want me anymore... Unfair."

"I couldn't watch you kick me and the baby aside to be with another woman."

"Only if we die together... at least the Blackwood legacy will go to our child. And you... will finally be mine."

Her voice faded. She vomited black blood.

Her eyes remained fixed on Liam, unblinking.

Liam listened, showing no reaction other than grabbing Kate’s hand.

His lips trembled. After a long time, he managed three words.

"I'm... so... sorry..."

He really... really... regretted it.

But it was too late.

Kate cried, holding his hand.

She had called 911 immediately. But it was too sudden. Liam was too broken.

Before the ambulance arrived, he was gone.

Katrina died on the spot.

The former Luna and Alpha arrived and fainted.

Later, they took Liam to be cremated and brought him home.

Kate didn't go to the funeral.

She heard later that the former Luna hated Katrina so much she sent the baby to an orphanage.

But that had nothing to do with Kate anymore.

Six months later, Kate accepted Ryder’s proposal.

Another six months later, they held a grand wedding in a church.

Putting her hand in Ryder’s palm, Kate felt her heart settle.

She had been hurt, but she still believed in love.

Falling in love isn't scary. As long as you have the courage to pick yourself up, let go, and turn around to start again.
