Lies and Funerals Under the Moon Chapter 4

Kate looked ghostly pale. A bandage was wrapped around her forehead, and she looked like she might collapse at any second.

Liam instinctively let go of Katrina, stunned. "Kate, why are you..."

Kate ignored him. she walked through the crowd to the former Luna and gently took the hand that wanted to strike again.

"Let it go."

Three words. Weak and desolate. They made Liam’s chest tighten.

Katrina, seeing Kate, turned to face her.

She wept, slamming her head on the floor in front of Kate.

"Luna, I beg you. Liam and I truly love each other. Please don't tear us apart."

"I didn't want to ruin your marriage. I don't want anything. I won't threaten your position. I just want to be with him. Please... please let us be."

"I know you grew up together and are fated mates, but love doesn't follow a schedule."

"It's my fault for being cheap. I shouldn't have fallen in love with him. I tried to give up, but once I loved him, I couldn't control it anymore."

"You have everything, but I only have him... Please, pity me. Just give me a little space."

Katrina's speech caused an uproar in the crowd.

Yet her face was full of the stubbornness of someone sacrificing everything for love.

Kate held back the furious former Luna and looked calmly at Liam.

"Is that what you think too?"

Liam’s eyes held struggle and emotion. He met Katrina’s hopeful gaze, but then he turned away.

He looked at Kate, his fists clenched at his sides, knuckles white.

"No. I won't be with her."

Katrina looked at him in shock, tears rolling down like broken beads.

Liam avoided her tragic gaze, his voice hoarse.

"Katrina, this ends here. There is no future for us. You should leave the pack territory as soon as possible."

As his words fell, he strode out of the room.

He left Katrina sitting on the floor, staring at his back in despair.

Katrina bit her lip until it bled, glaring at Kate. "Kate, even if you snatch him back, you can't drive me out of his heart! The one who isn't loved is the third wheel!"

Kate looked down at her coldly.

"Are you so sure you are the loved one?"

"He loved me yesterday, he loves you today, and tomorrow he will love someone else..."

Katrina stood up and ripped open her collar.

"This is the proof he loves me!"

The marks of passion on her skin stabbed into Kate’s eyes.

Katrina sneered, looking at Kate with pure malice. "Kate, we aren't finished!"

Kate pulled the former Luna, who was ready to fight again, back to her own room.

Liam was leaning against the window, looking lost.

Seeing Kate and his mother, he composed himself and looked at the gauze on Kate’s head.

"How did you get hurt?"

Kate said calmly, "I hit the wall when you pushed me."

Liam froze, then looked ashamed. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to. I didn't notice you were hurt."

Kate’s tone was flat. "You were too busy feeling sorry for Katrina. Of course you didn't see me bleeding."

Liam was silent for a long time before looking exhausted. "Kate, it's my fault. I lost control."

"I will separate from her. I will make it up to you. Just... don't bully her anymore."

Kate was speechless.

Bully.

What a ridiculous word.

As if she were the villain tearing apart star-crossed lovers.

Just as he finished speaking, a young nurse screamed from down the hall.

"Suicide! Someone slit their wrists!"

Liam’s face went instantly white. He panicked and moved to run out.

The former Luna shouted, "You are forbidden to go!"

But Liam acted like he didn't hear. He shoved Kate, who was standing in his way, aside and sprinted out of the room.

Kate was caught off guard and shoved hard to the floor.

The former Luna rushed to help her up, crying. "Kate..."

Kate looked at her through tears.

"Mom... I'm going to dissolve the mate bond with Liam."

The former Luna turned pale hearing the formal tone. She slumped down beside Kate.

She had watched Kate grow up. She was like her own daughter.

No one expected Liam and Kate to end like this.

She wept, looking into Kate’s eyes, and sighed. "The Blackwood family has failed you."

Kate had a mild concussion from the head injury. The healer kept her for observation overnight.

After sending the former Luna home, she lay back in bed. Suddenly, the door was pushed open.

Liam walked in, expressionless.
