Lies and Funerals Under the Moon Chapter 6
Early the next morning, Kate packed her things and checked out of the infirmary.
Just as she was about to leave, Liam rushed over.
His eyes were bloodshot. He grabbed her wrist, squeezing so hard he almost crushed the bone.
Kate cried out in pain, trying to shake him off. "Liam, let go! It hurts!"
But Liam was acting like a madman. His inner wolf was on the verge of breaking out, ignoring her completely.
"Where is Katrina? Where did you hide Katrina?!"
Kate was angry and confused. "How would I know where she is? Let me go!"
Liam laughed in anger. "You don't know? Who else besides you would target her!"
He pulled out his phone and played a video.
In the video, Katrina had been stabbed in the stomach with a silver dagger. She had fallen in a dirty alley, blood pooling beneath her.
Watching Katrina’s wretched state, the distress in Liam’s eyes was unconcealed.
He looked at Kate with tears in his eyes, his tone softening into humble begging.
"Kate, I beg you. Let her go. I shouldn't have betrayed you. Once I save her, I'll break up with her. I'll never be with her again."
"Just tell me where she is. If we wait any longer, she'll die!"
The last time he was this humble was when Kate fell off the cliff.
He had held her, crying, begging her not to die.
Kate felt detached. She shook her head expressionlessly. "I didn't do it. I don't know where she is."
Liam’s face turned cold inch by inch.
"You really won't say?"
He suddenly sneered.
Kate felt a sense of dread. The next second, Liam dragged her by the wrist toward the exit.
Kate stumbled after him. "Liam, let go! What are you doing? I told you, I didn't do it! Even if I hate her, I wouldn't do something like that!"
Liam turned a deaf ear. He dragged Kate into his car.
Kate struggled to open the door, but Liam locked it.
Then, he grabbed Kate’s arm, pulled out a silver dagger, and slashed it viciously across her skin.
"Ah!"
The searing pain of silver burning her flesh hit her. Blood splattered.
Kate went pale, looking at Liam in disbelief.
Liam stared at her with red eyes, his voice cold as ice. "Give me the address!"
Kate looked at the wound opening on her arm, trembling uncontrollably.
"I told you... I don't know..."
Liam stared her down.
Their eyes met. The cruelty in his gaze pierced her like a thousand swords.
He slashed her arm again.
Kate shrank back in agony. Liam’s voice whispered like a demon in her ear.
"Speak! The address!"
Kate cried, curling into a ball, looking at Liam’s icy face through blurred vision.
"I don't know... I really don't know..."
Time ticked by.
Every second meant Katrina was closer to dying in that alley.
Liam lost control completely. He gripped Kate’s hand tight, carving line after line into her arm.
With every cut, he roared the question.
"Address! Give me the address! Give it to me!"
By the end, Kate was covered in blood.
Her face was as white as paper. Her breathing was shallow. Her face was wet with tears.
Liam was shaking, hate burning in his eyes. He squeezed her slender neck.
"You won't stop until she's dead? Where is she! Where did you put her! Say it! Say it, Kate!"
Darkness swarmed her vision. Kate cried silently.
"I really... regret loving you..."
As the blood drained from her, her consciousness faded. A feeling of endless sorrow and absurdity rose in her heart.
Am I going to die?
To die at the hands of my fated mate.
Just as Kate thought she would die right there, Liam’s phone rang.
He let go of her and answered frantically. His assistant shouted:
"Alpha, we found Miss Reed's location!"
Liam was overjoyed. "I'm coming immediately!"
He hung up and kicked Kate.
Kate tumbled out of the car and hit the pavement.
Liam looked at her battered form through the window, his eyes cold.
"You better pray Katrina is okay, or I won't let you off!"
Kate lay on the ground, watching the car speed away. With tears and hatred, she finally passed out.
When she woke up again, she was back at the Healer's lodge.
Passersby from the pack had seen her and rushed her in for emergency aid.
Because of the excessive blood loss and the toxicity of the silver wounds, they worked on her for a day and a night before she was out of danger.
The dozen cuts on her arm were a testament to Liam’s cruelty.
Through the door, she heard young nurses gossiping about Liam’s devotion to Katrina.
To save her, he summoned the best healers in the pack.
During her surgery, he went to the Moon Temple personally to pray.
While she slept, he sat by her bedside all night without blinking.
Kate listened silently, her heart finally still and empty.
She got up with her paper-white face and asked the healer for an injury report.
Just as she reached the door, the Head Elder called.
"Luna, your mate dissolution agreement has taken effect. The asset liquidation is underway. In one week, all pack assets under Liam Blackwood’s name will be transferred to you."
Kate looked up at the sun hanging high in the sky.
She curled her lips into a faint smile and spoke calmly.
"Send Liam's copy of the agreement to him. Cash on delivery."
The Elder agreed. Kate looked down at her bandaged arm.
Her tone turned colder.
"At the same time, file a complaint with the Alpha Council. Charge him with malicious injury to a fated mate. No settlement. No mediation."
After hanging up, she took her medical report to the Council and filed the charges directly.
Once the case was opened, she went home, grabbed the suitcase she had packed days ago, bought a plane ticket, and flew to her parents' pack overseas.
The moment she stepped on the plane, Kate expressionlessly removed her SIM card, snapped it in half, and threw it in the trash.
Kate’s eyes were filled with endless ice.
Liam Blackwood. The fated bond is severed. If we meet again, we are enemies.
