Laura was my editor from when I used to write mystery thrillers.

She was also my mentor, in a way.

As I wrote Laura's personalized signature, she leaned down and whispered in my ear: "After the signing, can I treat you to dinner?"

I nodded, accepting.

After the signing ended, I noticed Laura had been standing in the corner waiting for me.

After I finished handling the remaining matters, I walked to her side and said: "Let's go."

As soon as Laura and I left the bookstore, I saw Clara standing at the entrance holding a bouquet.

"Hope your new book sells well." Clara finished speaking and thrust the flowers into my arms.

Not wanting to embarrass Clara in front of others, I accepted the flowers and said: "Thank you."

As Laura and I continued walking forward, Clara grabbed my sleeve. "Don't go. I have something to tell you."

I pushed Clara's hand away. "Another time. I'm busy today."

This time Clara didn't try to stop me.

Afterward, Laura and I went to a nearby restaurant to eat.

Laura came to my signing because she'd heard I was retiring from writing and wanted to ask why.

When I switched writing directions before, she thought it was a pity. Now hearing I was retiring completely, she was even more puzzled.

Since Laura was a close friend, I briefly explained my situation to her.

After hearing everything, Laura almost cried in front of me.

Seeing Laura's reaction, then thinking of what Clara said to me in her office that time,

My emotions at this moment were extremely complex.

After parting with Laura, I took a cab back to the hotel.
