Orphaned Without Refuge Chapter 6
I froze for two seconds after hearing this, then said through gritted teeth: "Clara, we're not even divorced yet. How could you do such a thing with Mason!"
Clara ignored my anger. "I called you here to accompany me for the procedure, and to remind you not to say anything in front of my dad."
Although Clara's appearance hadn't changed much over the years, I felt the person before me was becoming increasingly unfamiliar.
While waiting for the procedure, I asked Clara: "You don't want this child because you're afraid it's mine?"
"No, I don't want it simply because I don't want a child. It has nothing to do with whose it is."
After Clara entered the operating room, I sat outside reflecting on our years together.
Though the early years were beautiful and unforgettable, after Clara's repeated injuries, I felt I couldn't endure anymore.
I'd been somewhat hesitant about divorcing Clara, but after this incident, I made up my mind.
I'd originally planned to bring up divorce after Clara's procedure, but seeing her poor post-operative condition, I couldn't bear to speak.
These past two days, Clara had been recuperating at home due to physical discomfort.
To avoid awkward interactions, after instructing the housekeeper on precautions, I moved to a hotel.
As a result, on my first night out, at midnight, I received a call from Clara.
"Levi, I can't sleep alone at home. Can you come back and keep me company?"
Because of Clara's rare show of vulnerability, plus my concern for her health, I pathetically returned home.
As soon as I entered, Clara threw herself into my arms. "Levi, I'm a little scared. Can you sleep with me tonight?"
I surrendered to Clara's coquettishness.
After that night, my relationship with Clara warmed considerably.
During this period, she stopped mentioning Mason and often deliberately acted coy toward me.
Our interaction seemed to suddenly return to our honeymoon phase, which left me somewhat dazed.
Just as I was immersed in Clara's tenderness, a bucket of cold water was poured over me right on schedule.
Mason woke up.
After learning Mason had awakened, Clara rushed to the hospital immediately.
Watching her leave without hesitation, I laughed self-deprecatingly.
Mason woke up, and my dream should wake up too.
