Orphaned Without Refuge Chapter 9
Mr. Chen had been kind to me, so I greatly respected him.
If he hadn't helped back then, I couldn't have taken my mother away from my violent father.
The nursing home where my mother now lived was also arranged by Mr. Chen's connections.
Mr. Chen didn't want Clara and me to divorce, probably hoping Clara would have a reliable support after he passed away.
But in my current condition, I might not outlive him.
After postponing the divorce, I began wrapping up my work.
Because of the book signing event, I needed to return home to get my manuscript.
Not wanting to run into Clara, I specifically chose a time when she'd be at work.
But when I opened the door, I saw Mason wearing my pajamas, sitting in the living room reading.
The scene before me instantly drove me to lose my rationality. I walked over and yanked Mason from the sofa.
Then I punched him in the left cheek.
Mason fell back onto the sofa from my blow.
As I grabbed Mason's collar, he tilted his head and smiled at me: "Mr. Davis, I just got out of the hospital. You wouldn't want to send me back, would you?"
"Mason, don't push your luck! Do you think because Clara protects you, I won't dare touch you?"
"Hitting me will only make Clara feel more sorry for me. What's a little physical pain? What I want is Clara's love."
Seeing Mason's hypocritical expression, I disgustedly let go.
"No wonder Clara is so smitten with you. That mouth of yours really has something. But no matter what, you're destined to be nothing but a mistress who can't be brought into the light."
Mason adjusted his clothes, then looked up at me provocatively: "Whether I can be brought into the light or not, we'll see."
After that, I took my manuscript and left.
Because of Mr. Chen's previous words, I didn't interfere further with Mason and Clara's affairs.
Regarding Clara bringing Mason home, I also chose to ignore it.
Since I no longer cared about Clara, whatever she did couldn't hurt me anymore.
I kept giving myself psychological suggestions, kept hypnotizing myself.
I thought this way I wouldn't lose control over Clara again, but when Clara came to question me about Mason, my defenses still broke down.
