Seeing me, Clara came forward and checked my clothes thoroughly.

"Why do you smell like her perfume? What did you two do! Levi, don't forget—we're not divorced yet."

I pushed Clara off me. "Don't project your sordid thoughts onto me."

"I've broken things off with Mason. Come home with me. I'm worried about you being out alone."

"Your affairs have nothing to do with me. I won't go back with you. I find it disgusting."

"If you mind what happened before, we can move somewhere else."

Seeing I wouldn't respond, Clara took my hand. "Levi, come home with me. Please."

Hearing this long-absent endearment, I remembered the Clara from my dreams.

But the Clara before me was no longer the Clara in my heart.

"Don't call me that. Don't destroy what little remains of my memories."

After speaking, I shut Clara outside the door.

The next morning, after packing my luggage, I planned to go to the nursing home to pick up my mother.

But as soon as I opened the door, Clara collapsed to the floor.

Finding Clara's face unnaturally flushed, I touched her forehead.

Her forehead was burning hot—she must have stayed outside all night and caught a fever.

After sending Clara to the hospital, I notified her father.

After Mr. Chen rushed over to see Clara, he pulled me to the hospital garden to talk.

"Levi, Clara's current state is my fault for not raising her properly. I apologize to you on her behalf."

"You know, when Clara's mother died of stomach cancer, it left Clara with significant psychological trauma, which is why she's been so extreme about your situation."

"Clara does have feelings for you. This child is just too greedy. She wants this and wants that, and ends up with nothing. Ultimately, her mother and I spoiled her."

Regarding my change in how I addressed him, Mr. Chen didn't react much. He patted my shoulder and said: "Levi, you're a good kid. I understand your choice, but I also hope you can go further."

After leaving the hospital, I took my mother to live in another city.
