Orphaned Without Refuge Chapter 3
After giving my statement, I was detained.
Although I understood this wouldn't stick, my heart still felt uneasy.
After two days in detention, I was released.
Because Ryan Wade recanted.
He said his previous accusation was revenge for being laid off, and the bank card that transferred money to him was stolen from the company.
I walked out of detention with mixed feelings, sensing things weren't as simple as they appeared.
After getting out, I saw Clara standing by her car waiting for me.
I was somewhat surprised she'd come to pick me up.
"Mason's condition isn't good, so I need you to go to the hospital and give him a blood transfusion." Clara looked at me with furrowed brows.
My heart instantly went cold at Clara's words. Thinking of my recent imprisonment, I resisted: "I'm not going."
"Levi, don't be ungrateful! The only reason you got out so quickly is because Mason needs you. Otherwise, you'd be rotting in prison."
"I'd rather go to prison than serve as a blood bag for your Mason!" I shouted at Clara.
Clara was silent for a moment after hearing me, then looked at me and said: "You might not care, but if your mother finds out you're in prison for a crime, she probably couldn't handle the shock. And if you really go in, your father won't treat your mother well either."
"Are you sure you want to keep arguing with me about this?"
Seeing Clara say such cruel words with such a calm expression, I laughed bitterly in response: "Clara, you're ruthless enough. They say hell hath no fury like a woman scorned."
Then I followed Clara to the hospital.
During the blood draw, I learned Mason's injuries were severe.
Because his head was seriously injured during the struggle with Ryan Wade, he might become a vegetable.
Clara stood beside me, intensely discussing Mason's condition with the doctor, her words revealing deep concern.
I closed my eyes and repeated bitterly to myself: Indeed, Clara's heart only has room for Mason.
