**CHAPTER 4 - THE ONE WITH THE BROKEN PHONE 1.4**
It's her. She's wearing her purple silk bathrobe again. I just kept quiet as I stood behind her. She was currently being scolded by someone. Her voice was so angry. It was scary to listen to.
Ten maids, eight butlers, even Dahlia were now standing before him. Silently bowing as they listened to their master's sermon. While Dahlia was her face was full of worry as she stared in one direction. I followed Dahlia's gaze.
It's one of the maids. She's sitting on the floor crying. Her clothes are wet, looking like she's been spilled with orange juice. Next to her are broken dishes, a tray, scattered food, and a broken plate on the floor. Thera is the one shouting at her.
What the fuck is happening? I wanted to go to the maid to help her, but Thera's anger was scary. I've only heard her that angry before.
"I'm really sorry, young lady." the maid cried, as if she wanted to disappear from the overwhelming shame.
"Sorry?! I'm not asking for your apology! I'm asking you to do your job properly! If you can't properly do a simple task assigned to you, how much more a bigger responsibility?! Do you see what happens when you do not take your role seriously?! You guys were trained to serve people in this house not to spend your time chitchatting about some bullshit serial killer news! You act like gossip mongers and not professionals!!! am paying you to work not to gossip!!" this is a painful accusation.
"Young lady, h-it won't happen again." the maid begged.
"Yes. Of course it won't happen again because you're fired! I don't want a clumsy server walking inside my house!" She shouted loudly.
I frowned when I heard her say that. Why is she firing this maid? Because the maid tripped and broke a plate? The maid's eyes widened at what Thera said. She quickly approached her boss and knelt down in front of him. She even grabbed the hem of Thera's robe.
I hate this! I hate what I'm seeing right now and I hate that I can't seem to tell myself to move and help. If Dahlia can't do anything, how can I?
"Young lady, please don't. I need a job. My son is graduating from college. Please, young lady. Please. I'll just wash your robe. I'm begging you." The sister pleaded. I just noticed that the hem of Thera's robe was wet. It looked like orange juice had spilled on it.
I felt something pinched my heart after hearing that. I don't understand. Why does she treat his people like this? Is this the reason why they are all afraid of her? It hurts to watch what she does.
"You should have thought of that before acting like a stupid fool. You're still fired." She replied emotionlessly.
I'm fucking disappointed with what I heard. She's fucking cruel. She seems heartless.
"Young lady, please---"
"Ana, that's enough. Stand up right there." Dahlia approached the maid and pretended to get her up from her knees.
"Everyone! Listen to me. Take my words seriously. I think I'm giving all of you so much freedom inside this mansion that you're all starting to become too comfortable doing anything you want. Well, let me remind you that you're here to---"
~I get dirty thoughts about you
They get worse when I'm without you
Does that mean that
Or are you thinking them as well?~
Thera was stunned when Chloe Adams' Dirty Thoughts suddenly started playing.
WAIT!! FUCK!! THAT'S MY FUCKING RINGTONE!!!
They all looked in my direction. I noticed that Thera was a little surprised to see me standing behind her. Now she's giving me a combination of disbelief and anger look. Be quiet Chloe Adams!!!
~When I'm lonely
All the corners of my mind start racing
Things that should be kept in the basement
Spend my time trying to erase them~
When I grabbed my phone, I immediately saw Mykel's picture in front of me. He's calling me. I quickly turned it off. They were all still looking at me. Thera was clearly holding back her anger.
She was so scared. You're in the wrong timing, Mykel!
He just took a deep breath and turned to face the maids again.
"As I was saying..." he began. I can still see his right hand opening and closing as if he were pressing an imaginary stress ball. "I want this to serve as a reminder for everyone. Moving forward, I want to see all of you taking your jobs seriously. The next time I catch someone gossiping about this fucking serial---"
~I get dirty thoughts about you
They get worse when I'm without you
Does that mean that
Or are you thinking them as well?~
WHORE MYKEL!
Thera's words were interrupted again when my stubborn boyfriend called again. I looked at her. She remained with her back turned with her palms folded.
This time, I decided to answer the call. It seemed like Mykel had something important to say. Maybe it was an emergency. I was just going to stay away from them. I pressed the answer button and turned my back on them all. I also started walking to get away from them.
"Hello, love. Why are you---" I was cut off from speaking when someone grabbed my phone away from my hand. It's Thera.
She's giving me a death glare and forcefully, she threw my phone. I watched as my phone hit the cemented wall. After that, it fell suddenly. I heard exaggerated gasps coming from the people who saw what happened.
"Cythera!" Dahlia shouted her name loudly.
I felt my whole body gradually getting colder and my eyes getting heavier. I looked at her and now she's wearing that fucking poker face again. She was still holding my hand where she had taken the phone. I pulled it from her with some force and quickly ran to my now broken phone. I also saw Dahlia running towards the same direction.
I picked up the cellphone. It's broken. It's fucking broken!
"Sky, we will fix this okay. I'll take care of it." Dahlia said trying to comfort me.
I tried to hold back my tears, but the more I held back, the more it felt like a barbed wire was wrapping around my neck. It hurt! I hate this! Why did she do that?! Fuck her!
"First rule, no one should interrupt me while I'm speaking. It's dis---"
I can't take her anymore.
"Fuck you!" I shouted at her.
"Sky!" Dahlia scolded me, looking very scared. Even the other maids were surprised by what I said.
I can't take it. She's going too far.
"What did you say?" she asked, shaking her head.
I ignored it. I stood up while holding my phone.
"Sky, calm down." Dahlia stopped me.
"I said! What did you s---"
"You're cruel!" I quickly cut her off as he shouted. I could see her entire face turning red with anger. But I didn't care anymore. She's so mean! She's so mean.
"How dare you say th---"
"Do you know what you broke?" I asked seriously. "You broke my cellphone. But why should I cry, I can replace it? But no. It's not the phone that I'm so angry about! It's what's inside this fucking phone that you threw like that!" I yelled at him and I couldn't help but cry. I didn't care if everyone was looking at me. I also noticed that the other people in the house had arrived and they were all looking at us now.
"Just because Ate Ana spilled her juice on you, you ruined so much! You embarrassed the person, you ruined his dream for his child! Then what? This? This thing that's not yours, so why ruin it?! Why? Because you have so much to buy?! Well, good for you!"
My chest hurts so much. I'm having trouble breathing because of the heaviness in my heart.
"You just took a very important piece of my life. In this phone, I saved all the pictures of my father. My memories of him when he was alive. This is where I saved my pictures of my dead father! And you---you ruined all that just because somebody accidentally threw juice on your robe?! Just because people are talking about a national news which is normal because they are human! But you---you, you took my most cherished memory of my father from me. I hate you! You're cruel!" and there I said it.
It hurts. I don't know if there's a way to recover it. I wish I had listened to Mykel and backed up all the pictures so that even if the phone breaks, I wouldn't lose them.
Dahlia was also crying next to me. When I saw her crying, I suddenly felt weak.
"I want to go home." I said while looking at Dahlia who immediately hugged me. I don't want to. That's enough. It's only been a few days since I experienced this hell. What if I stayed here longer?
I looked in her direction. She wasn't looking at me. She was looking at the floor and her face still didn't react. You couldn't tell if he was even affected by what I said or not.
And then she turned her back on us and started walking away without even saying anything.
"I quit. I'm going home." I said seriously as she walked away. She was momentarily stunned when I said that. But she didn't say anything, then walked away again.
My entire stay here, I did nothing but take her insides. Even though I was tired of making lesson plans, I insisted on cooking for her so that at least that way she would feel that not everyone was afraid of her, hoping that her cursing was just armor. That she could open up to others so that her life wasn't just centered around her room. But no. That wasn't armor anymore. That was really her.
Really a demon...
