To protect what’s mine Chapter 45

‘Go to sleep,’ I growl at Beren in irritation. She has been pacing in our head for the last three hours to the exact minute.

‘Go to mates then,’ she growls back to me.

‘No, we are not going to them the first night out of the hospital,’ I tell her. I really did want to go find the twins and sleep in the bed with them. I knew their scents would be calming. But, I didn’t want to appear desperate or needy.

‘Then I won’t let you sleep,’ she hissed at me with anger and annoyance.

‘Fine, I’ll lay here all night and in the morning we’ll be too tired to do spend time with them,’ I tell her.

‘You wouldn’t dare,’ she tells me.

I’m about to respond when my door opens. I sit up instantly. Years of ingrained behavior of fear of my parents saw to me having a hair trigger response.

“Sorry to wake you,” Calyx muttered as he saw me sitting up.

“I was already awake,” I tell him.

“Sorry, I just,” he starts as he fumbles over his words.

“Zviad wouldn’t let you sleep?” I ask, hope in my words to give me an excuse to have him in my room.

“Yea, he’s been pacing and nagging me to…” he trails off. “I’ll let you sleep.”

“No, please don’t leave,” I beg. Now that he is here, I don’t want him to leave. “Come here?” I hold out my hand to him. I’m hoping that he will join me in bed. His scent is already calming me and Beren.

He lets out a sigh and is across the room in a second. I watch his eyes glaze over. I assume he is mind linking Markus. I am proven correct when my younger mate joins us in my room. Both twins join me in bed. Markus on my right and Calyx on my left.

For the first time in hours, Beren is content and quiet. I sigh and snuggle into their arms. I start out facing Cal. His arms wrap around me and pull me in close. Mark also wraps his arms around my stomach and spoons up next to me. Bliss overtakes me, this has got to be heaven because I never want to leave our little cocoon.

I don’t know when I fell asleep. But I do know that it was the best night sleep I have ever had. During the night, I rolled in my sleep. I am now facing Mark. My face is press into his chest. He is curled protectively around me. Cal has his face pressed into my hair. I can hear both of my twins asleep with even breathing.

I’m not sure what woke me up. Something did, and it was nagging me that I could not figure it out. I’m about to move, when I feel something claw at the blanket. I tilt my head slightly and spot Rose using my feet as handles to climb onto the bed.

She smiles brightly as she sees me awake. Finally, on the bed, she crawls over and wiggles into my arms. I scooch back and into Cal, so Rose is nestled between Mark and I. I kiss her forehead and close my eyes. It’s still dark outside and I’m not ready to get up yet.

The next time my eyes open, I can hear voices. Rose is talking to Mark. I can feel Cal using his finger to draw circles across my arm.

I then hear him whisper, “I want to wake up to this every morning.”

“I agree,” I tell him as I turn my head to look at him. I desperately want Calyx to kiss me. He must see the desperation in my eyes. He starts to lean over to kiss me when we’re interrupted.

“I hungry,” Rose whines.

I turn to look at her. She is pouting and Markus has a smirk on his face. I know that he has something to do with Rose interrupting us. But I can’t be mad at him as Rose’s stomach let’s out a growl. “Let’s get you fed Rosebud,” I say with a small smile.

I start to get up when Cal let’s out a growl and tightens his arms around me. He yanks me back to his chest and plants a kiss on my forehead. Cal then releases me. I turn and yank Cal to me. I kiss him on the lips before I make my escape. Rose and I crawl off the end of the bed leaving a stunned Calyx and Markus.

I turn to look at them. They both have their eyes glazed over as they mind link each other. They look stunned, mouths hanging open. Now I’m embarrassed that I overstepped a boundary. Maybe I pushed to quickly by kissing Calyx.

“Hey flower,” Uncle Mike says cheerfully as he wheels himself up to my doorway.

“Uncle Mike!” Rose shouts cheerfully as she runs to Mike. She climbs up onto his lap.

“Let’s get you fed,” he says with a smirk playing at his lips. He starts to wheel himself backwards.

I smile and am about to follow the pair to dining room when two pairs of arms wrap around my waist. I’m pulled back into the room. Sparks shoot through me as the twins wrap their arms around me.

“Oh no, you are not going to kiss me and just leave,” Calyx purrs into my ear seductively.

“I am definitely feeling left out,” Markus whispers to me. “I think that you need to make it up to me.”
