To protect what’s mine Chapter 77

“Mommy, you miss story!” Rose says excitedly the next morning as the three of us sit at the table. “Daddy do good!”

“I’m sorry,” I apologize as I fight my way through a yawn. After my weird dream, I was not able to properly fall asleep.

“How you want your coffee, Ama?” Uncle Will calls from the kitchen.

“I’ve never had coffee,” I tell him as I cut up a sausage patty and toast. Once I am done, Rose scrambles into my lap and starts to eat. She takes a few bites before she is pushing the plate closer to Cal. Rose slides out of my lap and stands beside Cal. She holds up her arms and he picks her up. She then slides her plate closer to herself and continues to eat.

Uncle Will comes into the dining room. He sets a cup of black liquid in front of me. He then sets down a sugar bowl, sweetener packets, milk, and powdered creamer. I look up at him in confusion. Before he is able to say anything, Mark sits beside me.

“Do you want to try it sweet and with creamer, or try it black first?” Mark asks me.

I take the black liquid and take a sip. I am barely able to keep myself from spitting out the liquid. I then start to cough. “That is disgusting! How can anyone drink that?” I say as I fight through the cough.

Mark laughs as he takes the mug from me. He adds two spoon fulls of sugar and a generous helping of the creamer. He mixes it and then hands it back to me. I glare at him as I take another sip. It’s better this time. I don’t want to spit it out, but it still tastes bitter.

Mark barks out another laugh as he takes the mug again. He adds another spoonful of sugar and some more creamer. Once the coffee looks like a light tan, he hands it back to me. I take a drink.

Oh, I can see the appeal of coffee if it tastes like this. It’s hot, but I don’t care as I down the rest of the cup in a few seconds. I look longingly at my empty mug. Mark smirks as he fills another mug and doctors it up so it’s the same as before. I down this mug more quickly. It scalds a little on the way down, but with Beren’s help, we’ll heal quickly.

I look up at the shocked faces of my twin mates and their uncles. But I can’t concentrate on their faces. I’m feeling jittery out of nowhere. I need to move.

“Thatwasamazing. Ihaveneverhadanythinglikethatbeforeinmylife. CanIhaveanothercup, please. Oh,amIspeakingtofast. IfeellikeIamspeakingtofast. Berenisbouncingaroundinmyheadanddemandingthatwegorunning. Wegozoomzoomzoom,” I say with out taking a breath. I don’t care if they can understand me or not. I am about to vibrate out of my chair. I also don’t care how ridiculous sound. I am s glad that Rose is not in my lap.

“Why did you give the woman, who said she never had coffee before, two cups and enough sugar to kill a moose,” Cal growls at his brother.

“I didn’t think that it would make this much of a difference,” Mark says sheepishly.

“Igorunnow,” I say as I go to stand up. Beren is in full agreement. We are so full of energy. I could probably run the perimeter of the pack in my form.

Mark wraps his arms around my waist. “Oh no you don’t,” Mark sighs. I think he is regretting giving me coffee, but I do not care. It was delicious and now I feel so energetic.

“Love, you need to eat food and drink some water,” Cal says as he continues to glare at his twin.

“But,” I try to protest. There is a knock at the door that distracts everyone. I make my escape. I slip Mark’s hold and I’m though the back door that is located in the kitchen before anyone can stop me. I can’t stop giggling as I run. Beren is pressing me to shift so she can expel some of this energy. But I remind her that we can’t yet.

I hear the back door open and slam shut. I keep giggling and running. “Can’tcatchme!” I taunt as I run. I feel two pairs of arms wrap around me. I let out a cackle. Sucking in a deep breath, I look up at the faces of Calyx and Markus. They both look amused and aggravated. I turn in their hold and boop each of their noses at the same time. “Boop,” I giggle.

“Okay darling, let’s get food and water into your system,” Mark sighs at me.

I pout at them. I don’t want to stop. I like feeling jittery and full of energy. It distractions me from everything else. “But,” I pout at my twins.

“Food first,” Cal chuckles as Mark picks me up.

“You catch mommy!” Rose yells from the back part of the wrap around porch.

“They caught mommy,” I huff, some of the jitters vanishing as I spend time with my mates.

Cal smirks as he walks ahead of us and holds open the door for Mark to carry me inside. He sits me down at the table. Uncle Mike pushes a plate full of food towards me as Uncle Will places a cup of water down on the table. I scowl at the water. I want more coffee.

“Eat,” Cal says as he places a kiss on my head. Mark does the same. They both then snag a slice of toast before they are walking towards the front door.

“Wait! Where are you going?” I ask, panic lacing my tone.

“We have a meeting with a few pack members here in a few minutes. Sam is going to stay here with you and our uncles for the day. Vickie told us that she will be here at 10 a.m. to help you start getting ready. She is bringing a few things for Rose to try on and maybe wear,” Mark says.

“Okay,” I say as I deflate.

Both come back and this time, kiss me on my lips. “We’ll see you in a few hours before the pack meeting. We are staying with you this time.”
