To protect what’s mine Chapter 57
I don’t have my twin’s easy smile as we greet and mingle with pack members. I do have my features softer than normal, as I think about Ama and how we are going to introduce her as our Luna in little while. I know Vickie is getting her ready and Ama will look gorgeous when she makes her entry. Sam will walk with her as she will be using her crutches.
Maybe we should have done this tomorrow so Ama could have walked on her own with no crutches. I am about to mind link Mark about postponing things until tomorrow when Molly walks up.
“Is there anything I can do to help?” she asks sweetly. She has changed her clothes from what she was wearing a little while ago.
“We’re good, kid,” Mark laughs as he throws an arm over her shoulder like he did when we were all kids.
“You know I’m eighteen right?” Molly asks, stressing her age.
“We know, and you will always be that kid with a special place in our hearts,” Mark laughs again as he squeezes her shoulder.
Molly’s cheeks go pink. I don’t pay her anymore attention as I look around the room. Almost everyone is here, a few of the warriors in our pack are getting rough in their joking. With Rose coming down with Ama, we need no roughhousing. Rose needs a nice, calm, evening.
“If you will excuse me, I forgot something in our office,” Mark laughs. I shoot him a look. His eyes glaze over as he mind links me. ‘I want to give Ama one of the roses when she gets here,’ he smirks over the link.
“Oh, I can go get it for you!” Molly begs.
“No, that’s alright. I can get it,” he dismisses.
“Please, it’s my responsibility, as a ranked member of your pack, to help where needed,” she states, fluttering her eyes at us.
“I can-” Mark starts again as he removes his arm. He is feeling uncomfortable now. Molly has always had a crush on us. We tried to discourage her crush because we knew we had Ama, but infatuation can be hard to break.
“Please, I will be really quick. This way you guys can keep mingling as you are the Alphas,” she pleads.
“Alright,” Mark concedes. “On our desk is a vase of roses. Grab one for the both of us. We will give them to our Luna when we announce her.”
Molly looks star struck. She starts to stammer out words but can’t seem to form actual words. She continues to stand there.
“Go,” I tell her, okay so maybe it’s closer to an order. She was standing their like we had each grown a second head.
Molly nods her head and takes off towards our office.
I let out a sigh as she slips through the crowd. Mark and I go back to meeting with pack members. I nudge Mark to talk with the elders. I don’t have the patience to deal with them. I instead head over to meet with pack members that are getting louder and rougher.
“Alpha!” one of my warriors shout as he spots me.
“I need you to tone down the roughhousing,” I say, trying to be polite first.
“Aw, come on. We always get to roughhouse,” a younger one complains. He probably isn’t out of high school yet. He wants to show off.
“No, you don’t. Not in the pack house, that’s a long-standing rule. Take it outside or wait until after the meeting,” I growl, some of my alpha aura leaking out. The group submit after that. “We are introducing our Luna. She has a pup who has been through a lot in her short life. Fighting can upset her,” I sigh, reeling in my anger.
“We understand Alpha,” a different one states. “She was the pup you brought in a few weeks ago?”
“It was, her name is Rose,” I tell the group.
“We will be on our best behavior,” another smirks.
“So, you found your Luna,” the first of the group smirks at me.
“Yes,” I sigh. “We are introducing her tonight to the pack.” The group want to ask more questions, but I walk away. I’m trying to find my twin when a male blocks my path.
“So, where are my children. Usually, Sam is your shadow, and Molly is hanging off you,” Gamma Jarrett asks me with a smile.
“Sam is stepping into the role of Luna protector and guarding her door as she gets easy for tonight,” I answer with a smile.
Surprise and something else flashes in his eyes. Before I am able to pinpoint what, it is gone. He is smiling at me again. “Congratulations on finding your Luna. I knew it had to be something important with the way you and your brother were being so secretive. You know, Natalie and I were talking about it the other night. We will have to have you three come over for dinner.”
I am about to respond when, Jim mind links me. ‘We can’t find Rose! I told her to wait in your office as I had received a mind link for help. I came back less than a minute later, and she was gone,’ he tells me. There is panic and but also anger in his voice that my daughter is missing on his watch.
I want to growl at him, but Mark beats me to it. ‘What do you mean she is gone?’ he growls.
‘I came back to the office to the door shut but Rose not in there. I can’t pick up her scent as I’m not familiar with it and there have been too many people up and down the hall,’ he tells us.
I’m growling. I know I am as the pack members around me around baring their necks in submission to me. ‘Vickie,’ I growl over the mind link, ‘is Rose with you and Ama?’
‘No! She hasn’t returned yet with Jim and it’s been over fifteen minutes sent they left,’ Vickie says in haste, her own worry leaking out.
‘Keep Ama calm, we will find her,’ I growl as I stalk from the room to find my pup.
