To protect what’s mine Chapter 50
Sitting at my desk, I think over the plans for the day. Markus was handling mind linking the pack to have them come to the pack house. I was supposed to be deciding how we wanted to announce Amalie. Supposed to, was the key words. Each time I tried to write out a plan, my mind started to drift back to this morning.
Goddess, she was beautiful as she came undone in our hands. I can’t wait to explore her again. The cold shower after we were done, was not enjoyable but it had been necessary.
‘Stop thinking about her,’ Mark snaps at me through the mind link. ‘Being mates to Ama, means I can feel your emotions even more now.’
‘Not sorry,’ I smirk at him through the link.
‘If you don’t stop, we’re never going to get anything done,’ he growls at me.
“Knock, knock,” Vickie says loudly as she barges into our office.
“What the hell?” Mark growls at our warrior.
“Hush, I was promised to be able to tell people about you getting your mate,” she snarks as she sets a vase down on my desk. She then flops onto the couch and glares at me.
“What?” I growl at her.
“Do not growl at me. I want to meet her,” she says. “I even brought her flowers as a peace offering.”
“She’s staying with our uncles right now. As Mark said over the mind link, we will have a pack meeting at five tonight,” I tell her.
“Not good enough. I want to meet her. I have kept quiet for days,” she whines.
“How does Jim put up with you?” Mark sighs dramatically.
“Hush, you boys love me. I’m one of your best warriors and you know it,” she teases. She is right. Vickie is one of our best and always has been. She has also supported Mark and I since we graduated high school. She was like an older sister to us. Vickie fixes both of us with a look.
“Fine, come around 4:30 and you can meet her early,” I sigh at her.
“Thank you, was that so hard?” she laughs.
“Like pulling teeth,” I mutter.
“You love me. Tell the little flower I say hi and want her to visit soon,” Vickie laughs as she leaves our office.
Vickie, an amazing warrior, but very weird and eccentric. I guess that what makes her a great warrior.
I fight a sigh as I am now going over financial reports. Vickie had served as a good reset to start getting work done. Finances, what a joy? I get to go over the budget while Mark goes over warrior rotations.
I look at the documents about the omegas pay for working at the pack house and the hospital. I go over the raises that we will be implementing for all our omegas that work at the pack house and hospital. I approve the budget for medical supplies for the hospital and what has been requested for the pack house.
We are approaching the beginning of June, so Michelle, our head omega of the pack house, has requested a larger than normal budget for the 4th of July celebration in over a month. She has requested a larger food budget than what she had submitted last year. I sign off on it as I know our pack has grown some. This is one of everyone’s favorite holidays that have nothing to do with our werewolf heritage. I approve James’ request for a firework display. I give him a budget so that way he does not spend all our funds on fireworks, again.
I go over requests of outsiders asking to put up a business in our “small town”. Most of the requests come from humans who want to move in as they want to expand our town. I have to deny their requests and write out letters explaining that we do not want to grow beyond our “charming small town”. Most companies don’t care and move on. Sometimes we get a pushy business who tries to bully their way into our town. There was a request for a werewolf to join our pack to open a bakery. I would have to reach out and talk with the couple about joining our pack.
There are a few requests for werewolves asking to join our pack. I have to investigate why they want to join. Some are looking for a change. We’ve gotten a few who were escaping abusive mates. A few were escaping their Alphas. I like the requests for the ones that want to join because they found their mate in our pack.
“Can we leave yet?” Mark whines from his desk.
I look up and glare at him. He smiles and shrugs his shoulders at me. Fighting a sigh, I look at the clock on the wall. It reads 1:26 p.m.
‘We should go spend time with family,’ Zviad said excitedly.
“Fine, let’s go,” I sigh as I stand up from my desk.
“Awesome!” Mark shouts as he stands up. His eyes glaze over as he mind links someone. “They are at the park already.”
“Let’s go,” I say and leave our office. As we exit the room, someone runs into me.
“Oh Calyx!” a female exclaims.
“Molly?” I ask her in confusion.
“I was looking for you!” Molly says excitedly.
“I’m going on ahead,” Mark smiles as he dodges us and takes off running towards the park.
I fight off a growl of frustration at being held up and Mark’s behavior. “What can I do for you?” I ask. Molly was Sam’s younger sister. She had turned eighteen a month ago. But with school and us running the pack, we haven’t been able to see her. She usually runs around with Nick.
“I wanted to ask if you needed any help with getting things ready for the pack meeting this evening?” Molly asks with a smile. “You know that I can help out too. Just because Sam has the title of Gamma, doesn’t mean I can’t help.”
“We’re fine. Markus and I have everything handled. But if you excuse me, I have someplace that I need to be,” I excuse myself and walk away.
