To protect what’s mine Chapter 55

Vickie proved to be a good distraction as we waited for the pack meeting at 5 pm. After she and Jimmy had settled on the couch in the office, Rose had climbed into her lap. Rose told the pair about her playing at the park. Vickie, being dramatic, was able to ooh and aah in the right spots to keep Rose engaged. She asked questions when Rose took a breath. Vickie was great with kids.

“If you ever need a babysitter, please let me know! I would love to babysit this little flower for you,” she practically begs.

“I’ll let you know. But you will have to fight off the twins’ uncles and Gretchen for that right,” I laugh.

“Done, if it means she gets to spend time with me,” Vickie laughs. “Oh, did the twins show you the new flowers I brought this morning?”

“No,” I say as I look around the office. I spot the vase of pink roses on Mark’s desk.

“I figured you could use some more,” she laughs again. It is not a fake laugh but a genuine laugh. She is happy to be here and talking with me.

I smile at her. It’s nice to talk to someone who wants to engage in a conversation with me that has not been connected to me before everything happened. I still sometimes feel like the twins, their uncles, and the ranked members talk to me out of pity. I know on some level that it is not true, but I can’t turn my thinking around in a few days.

“Well, we have a few minutes before the meeting,” Vickie laughs as she pulls a bag out of her purse. “Out boys while I get our Luna looking perfect.”

“You know this is our office, right?” Mark asks with an eyebrow raised.

“Yep, now out so I can apply some makeup to her face and fix her hair. Unfortunately, I did not bring any clothes with me,” she mutters to herself.

“Some of mom’s clothes are still upstairs,” Cal states, everyone freezes.

“Perfect,” Vickie shouts. She starts to drag me out of the chair.

“Slow down, her leg is still hurt,” Cal then growls.

“Right, sorry,” Vickie laughs nervously. “Okay, you can carry her and lead the way.”

Cal rolls his eyes and picks me up. Mark lets out a laugh and picks up Rose. We are carried out of the office and up a flight of stairs. He leads us to a room. Vickie opens the door for all of us. We are both set on the bed. I take in a deep breath through my nose. The scents are very old and faint. No one really comes into this room.

Mark opens the closet door and then states, “After mom died, dad hated being in their room. It reminded him to much of what he lost.”

“Okay, boys,” Vickie says as she starts to push Mark out of the room. “Out, we have less than fifteen minutes. You boys go talk to the pack. I will link when we are ready. Amalie will make a grand entrance and everyone will love her.”

Both of the twins roll their eyes at Vickie, but they leave the room. Rose runs into the closet to look at the clothes. She is smiling and laughing as she runs her fingers over the fabric of the different clothes and dresses.

“I think the Luna was your size,” she mutters to herself as she follows Rose into the closet. “Okay flower, let’s make your mommy the prettiest woman in the whole world.”

Rose cheers as she starts to look more closely at the dresses. She pulls on a floor length black gown first. “Pretty,” Rose says as she shows off the material.

“It is very pretty, but we are not going for black tie event. We want soft, but beautiful. A dress that will turn heads in approval, not jealousy that your mom is the most beautiful. We and the Alphas know she is gorgeous, but we want everyone else to see her beauty,” Vickie states as she flips through the dresses. She is now talking to herself. “We want something around knee length, casual yet defining, a statement piece but not one that will rile up everyone. Here!” she states as she pulls out a dress.

The dress she pulls out is mint green chiffon, that will come to just below my knees. It has a v-neck and it laces up in the back. It’s simple but elegant in the layers of flowy fabric. The lacing in the back will help it fit better on me since it may not be the right size. I’m admiring the dress when Vickie pulls a jeweled belt out of seemingly no where.

“We could use this to really dress up the dress,” she smirks playfully.

I shake my head. It would make it to over the top.

She lets out a sigh and states, “You’re right. Next time.” Vickie walks over to me and the next thing I truly register is that I am undressed and into the dress in a matter of seconds. I don’t even have time to protest that Vickie saw me practically naked. She lets out a laugh at my indigent look. “We don’t have time for you to stall. I still have to do your makeup and hair. It’s five already.”

Vickie pushes me over to the vanity and has me sit. She continues to mutter to herself as she starts to fix my hair. She holds it in certain ways. Vickie turns and looks at Rose sitting on the bed. “Little flower, will you run to your daddy’s office and grab one of the roses from the vase I brought earlier?”

“I help!” Rose perked up.

“It would be a big help if you would go get one for me,” she tells Rose. “Is that okay?” Vickie then asks me.

“Um, if someone goes with her,” I speak up.

“Jim and Sam are standing outside, one of them can go with her,” Vickie says. She walks Rose to the door and opens it.

“Are you done yet?” Jim asks.

“Not yet handsome, I need you to go with Rose to the Alpha’s office and get a few of the pink roses. I want to put them in Amalie’s hair,” she laughs.

“Fine, but hurry,” he huffs as he walks away, Rose trailing after him with a smile.

Vickie turns back to me and smiles, “Let’s get your makeup done as we wait.”

Vickie is a miracle worker. When I look at myself in the mirror, I am stunning. My eyes have mint green and black smoky effect. My lips and cheeks are pink that will match the rose that Vickie wants to put in my hair. We are just waiting for Rose to come back with the rose and then we will be ready.
