To protect what’s mine Chapter 73
The sound of her shout startles us as we had not heard her come out of the house. Aziz is even startled some as our mate shouting at us as she comes out of the house. Ama storms up to our group. She is glaring at Nick, her eyes soften as spots Rose on his lap.
“I will only say this one more time, you are not rejecting your fated mate because of me,” she growls.
“It’s not just because of you Luna,” Nick tries to defend, it is a hollow excuse.
“Is she a horrible person?” Ama challenges.
“No, she is very sweet,” Nick answers. He goes to say something else, but Ama is not having any of it and cuts him off.
“Do you think that she will not be a good female Delta?” Ama continues.
“She will be great,” Nick replies. He tries to say something else, again. But he is interrupted, again.
“Is she dating someone else and she might reject you?” she challenges.
“No, Kayla refuses to date anyone so she is ready when she meets her mate,” he states.
“So, what is the problem?” Ama demands.
“Luna, there is a lot going on right now and bringing a Delta female may make things worse,” Nick tries to defend.
“Earmuffs, Rosebud,” Ama says sweetly. She thinks something over and then looks at Vickie. “Actually, Vickie, will you take Rose inside to Uncle Mike and let her have one more cookie?”
I know Nick is in hot water. Ama said no more cookies a little while ago and now she is letting Rose have one as a bribe to get her inside.
“Sure, but I want details,” Vickie laughs as she stands up. “Come on little flower, let’s go find the best chocolate chip cookie with the most chocolate in it.”
Rose gets up. She is torn between leaving to get another cookie or staying. Rose races towards Aziz and I. She throws her arms around our neck before she goes over to Cal and Ama. Rose gives our twin and then our mate a hug. She then runs to Vickie. Our warrior scoops up Rose and carries her inside. Once the door is shut, Ama glares at Nick.
“If you use me as a fucking excuse to reject your fated mate, I will make the twins strip you of your title!” Ama growls. Beren must agree, as the amount of power that is radiating from her words, has us all trying not to submit. She does not sit down, instead choosing to tower over Nick. She may not have had any Luna training, but she has instincts. And those instincts tell her to remain standing to cow Nick into submission.
“Luna, I’m not using you as an excuse. But now is not the right time,” he tries to defend. Nick shoots us a look, pleading for help.
“Do not look at them for help,” Ama orders. “You fucking idiot, you found your fated mate and you are willing to throw her away!”
“I don’t want to throw her away, but as Delta my job and duty is to my pack! We’ve seen the hurt caused by our former Alpha and Gamma. We need to be focusing on strengthening our pack. My job as Delta is to train and strengthen our pack. I can’t do that if I’m fawning over my mate!” Nick shouts.
“Your duty is also to be the best mate, asshole,” Ama growls. “You are an idiot and an asshole.”
“Nickolas, we have failed as your Alphas and friends if we made you think that rejecting your fated mate would be the right choice,” Cal speaks up.
“No! Alpha, you both are great. It’s just that Sam and James don’t have their mates yet and I…” he trails off.
“You thought we were asked to reject our mates?” Sam asks as he joins our group.
“It kinda seems like it. You turn twenty-two on July first, and James turned twenty-three at the beginning of last month,” Nick finishes.
“We haven’t found them yet. James and I decided to spend our efforts in searching for Ama instead,” Sam tells him. “And before you start shouting at me Luna, you were my friend first before we found out you would be our Luna. Sam and I wanted to bring you home, not as our Luna, but as our missing friend.”
Ama seems content with that answer. She sits beside us and starts to run her fingers through Aziz’s fur.
‘This is bliss,’ Aziz purrs in our head as we feel the tingles from the mate bond.
I can’t help but agree. But I quickly go over what Nick has told us. He thought it would be for the best if he rejected his mate? What sort of messed up thinking is that?
Cal must be thinking the same thing as he asks, “Nickolas, who told you that?”
“My father said that it was my job to protect this pack first, even if it meant pushing aside my own happiness. The Gamma is to protect the Luna at all costs. The Beta is your right hand and is to lead the pack in case of emergencies. And the Delta is supposed to train and make the pack stronger,” he answers.
“What sort of utter bullshit?” Ama demands in confusion. “I know we did not learn that in school.”
“Ranked members will train their successors more in-depth and with stricter standards,” Sam says to me to try and explain Nick's reasoning.
“No, this is not strict standards. This is fucking disregarding yourself, your mate and your family,” Ama seethes.
‘Whatever took over her the other day is starting to push forward and to the surface,’ Aziz hisses to me. “Precious one,” Aziz growls to try and distract her.
“We will have a meeting in the morning with you father,” Cal growls. I know that he wants to know were Nick’s father got these ideas.
Amalie takes a breath to try and calm herself. She then speaks up, “Don’t fucking reject her. Spend time with her first. The Moon goddess paired you both together for a reason. I have a feeling that you will need her. This pack is going to go through some changes.”
Nick nods his head in understanding.
‘Lawrence, Cal and I would like a meeting with you first thing in the morning,’ I say through the mind link to Nick’s father.
‘Of course, Alpha, I will meet you in your off at 11,’ he tells me.
‘8 a.m.,’ I growl back. Lawrence does not respond. I roll my eyes. ‘Colton, will you meet me and Cal in our office at 8 a.m.?’ I ask our father’s Beta. I want to know everything.
‘Of course, Alpha,’ Colton replies.
