To protect what’s mine Chapter 59
I’m starting to get worried. Rose has been gone for far too long. It should have only taken a few minutes to reach the twins’ office, grab the rose, and come back here. Jimmy knows his way around the pack house, he would not have gotten lost.
“Vickie, will you mind link one of the twins or your mate for me? I’m starting to get worried about Rose,” I ask, trying to keep the worry out of my voice.
“You can’t?” Vickie asks. I had watched as she tried to distract herself from her growing concern.
“No, we don’t know why. But Uncle Will is looking into it,” I tell her.
I watch her eyes glaze over as she goes to mind link. She is startled by whoever is talking to her. I see her nod her head and blink her eyes. Her eyes go back to normal.
“What did he say?” I ask, now my anxiety is bleeding into my words.
“The twins have it handled,” she assures me as she goes back to doing my hair.
“Have what handled?” I demand. “What happened? Are we under attack?”
“No, no, everything is going to be okay. Alpha Calyx wants us to stay here, and they will bring Rose up in a bit,” she tries to act cheerful.
“Vickie, I really like you and I want to be your friend. But you can’t with hold information from me, especially if it is about my daughter,” I growl. Beren is trying to force her way out. She knows something happened to our pup and she wants to know what.
“Calyx wants you to stay here as they look for her,” she sighs in defeat. Whether it was because she gave into me or she thought the order was dumb on Cal’s part, I did not know or care about at the moment. “Rose went missing and they’ve pulled warriors to find her.”
“I’m going to the meeting hall,” I growl. I stand up and ignore my limp. I make my way out of the room and to the staircase.
“Let me help you so you don’t hurt yourself,” Vickie says as she slings my right arm over her shoulder. We then make our way down the steps. Vickie takes them more slowly than I want to. I want to be down the steps in seconds, not minutes.
“Ama, where are your crutches?” Uncle Will asks as he pushes Uncle Mike in his wheelchair.
“Rose is missing,” I growl.
Both men stiffen at my words. They then let out growls of anger from them and their wolves.
“Go help search,” Uncle Mike tells his mate.
“We will find her,” he assures me before he is running off to help.
“Where are you going?” he asks as he starts to wheel himself forward to follow me.
“I’m going to go confront my pack members. Someone in that meeting hall knows something and I am going to find out who,” I snarl. I remove my arm from across Vickie’s shoulder and limp to the meeting hall. I ignore Nick’s look, as we pass him and I continue on my way. He is the only ranked wolf we have passed on our way to the meeting hall. Vickie opens a door for me. I wish I could storm into the room and demand attention. Someone here knows what happened to my daughter and I want to know who.
I look around the room at everyone. They are whispering to each other. Only a few members have taken notice of me.
“Where is my daughter!” I shout, rage tinting my voice and vision.
This gets everyone’s attention. The whole room stops instantly. There is no sound outside of a few breaths. No one moves. James is the first to move. He starts to make his way towards.
“Luna,” James states, trying to calm me down.
“Don’t!” I growl in warning at him. I don’t want someone to calm me down. I want my pup. “Where is my pup?” Beren growls as she pushes forward. I ignore the pained whimpering let out from the surrounding pack members.
“We found her,” Mark shouts as he runs back into the room. He is trying to lessen my aura.
I try to take a few deep breaths. I successfully push Beren back. Then I see Calyx enter the meeting hall. “Rosebud!” I shout in relief. I make my way towards Cal as he carries her towards me.
“She’s just asleep. We found her locked in a supply closet,” he tries to sooth.
“Oh baby,” I sob as I take her into my arms.
“Mommy?” Rose asks, her voice hoarse.
“Shh, it’s okay,” I tell her as I kneel on the ground, she is still cradled in my arms.
“I sorry. I failed,” she starts to cry.
I’m fighting off tears now as my pup is crying. “Shh shh, you didn’t fail anything,” I try to sooth.
“I failed to make you look pretty,” she sobs into my chest.
“It’s okay that you didn’t get the flower. We were so worried when you wandered away,” I tell her.
“Didn’t,” she hiccups.
“Didn’t what, Rosebud?” Mark asks as he kneels beside us.
“Didn’t wander away,” she whispers.
“What do you mean?” Cal asks her softly.
“Got mommy rose. Then mean lady tooked rose and yell. She lock me up,” Rose states as she starts to cry harder.
“Someone put you in there?” I growl. “Rosebud, I need you to tell me who did that to you.”
“Mean lady,” she cries, not looking up.
I hand her to Mark and stand up. Mark looks somewhat shocked before he wraps Rose in his arms to protect her. I nod and take a step away from them. I then take a deep breath through my nose. I have known Rose’s scent from the day she was born. It can be very faint, but I would still be able to smell it.
I zero in on her apple blossom scent that is clinging to a rose. And not just any rose, one of my pink roses. One of my roses that is in the hands of another she wolf. I let out a growl and pack members part around me.
The brunette is fixed in place as Beren and I leak our aura. We may not be officially Luna yet, but the moon goddess destined us to be one. I see her trying to fight my aura.
Calyx is following me and sees where I am looking. He pins the she wolf with a glare and lets out a growl. This has everyone, but Mark, Rose, and I, submitting. The she wolf drops to her knees and releases my rose. It’s then that I see blood on one of the thorns.
I give no warning. I lunge for the bitch.
