To protect what’s mine Chapter 63
“Well, the good news is that your leg is finally completely healed,” Uncle Will says as he stands at the foot of my hospital bed. “I still want you to take it easy for the next few days. You were finally healing and then this happened. You need to spend a week out of my hospital.” He jokes with us the next day.
I nod my head in understanding. I really do not want to spend anymore time in the hospital. The twins are busy at the pack house. They have been running damage control since I woke up. They both had refused to leave my side until I was awake. Now that I woke up, they were back at the pack house.
Rumors had flown around after I attempted to attack Molly. Some said I was the chosen mate and Molly was the fated. Others said that I used my position as the twins fated mate to isolate Sam from his family. It was a mess of rumors and accusations.
The few people that knew the truth were trying to set the record straight, but it wasn’t enough to stop the rumors. Cal and Mark had announced that there would be another pack meeting tomorrow afternoon to set the record straight. They would also announce that we will be dealing with my family and Sam’s family during a follow up meeting so that way people would know what happened to me.
Sam escorts me from my hospital room to the front of the hospital. I caught a few people staring at me. I look away and as Sam growls at them. They quickly advert their eyes. I see Ann at one point, but do not look her way.
Vickie is standing in front of the hospital with her mate and my pup. She smiles as she spots me. Vickie whispers something into Rose’s ear that has Rose whipping around to look at me.
“Mommy!” Rose squeals in delight as she throws her arms around my legs. I smile as kneel down and wrap her in my arms. She pushes herself away and looks at me. “You no hurt?”
“I’m all better, Rosebud,” I tell her as I kiss her nose.
She giggles and then pushes her way out of my arms. “We go explore?”
“Not today sweetheart. Uncle Mike is expecting us at home,” I tell her. I watch as she deflates some but nods her head.
“Come on,” Vickie laughs as she links her arm through mine and leads me back towards Uncle Mike’s house. “The twins mind linked me that they had the dresses moved to your room. We are going back to try on clothes. This way we can figure out your proper size and decide what to wear to the pack meeting tomorrow. Tomorrow, we are going for commanding and beautiful.”
I turn to look at Sam for help. He just shrugs his shoulders and goes back to talking with Jimmy as the pair are on constant alert for trouble.
“Are you sure?” I ask hesitantly. I don’t want her to make a fuss over me. Besides, she probably has better things to do.
“Nonsense, I want to,” she laughs. She freezes in her tracks and looks at me. “Oh my goddess, I’m an idiot. I am totally making you uncomfortable. Jimmy why didn’t you tell me to stop. I’ve been making my Luna uncomfortable!”
“I told you to tone it down,” Jimmy mutters.
“Oh, Ama I’m so sorry,” she starts to wail.
Vickie’s mood swings kinda gives me whiplash with how fast she changes. But it’s refreshing. She’s not being mean. Her personality can be a lot, but I have a feeling that I need the practice since I’m going to be Luna. I like her as a friend, and I don’t want to lose her.
“It’s fine,” I tell her to try and calm her down.
“No, it’s not. I’m overwhelming you,” she tells me.
“Too be honest, everything overwhelms me. But that is because I spent the last seven years with no contact except for my parents and sister. The twins can sometimes be overwhelming in their own way. I just need time to adjust. But I like spending time with you. I enjoyed getting ready for the pack meeting the other day before everything happened,” I tell her.
“It’s official then, we are best friends,” Vickie laughs as she wraps me in a hug.
“Vic, you can’t declare someone as your best friend like that,” Jimmy sighs at his mate.
“Nonsense,” she dismisses as she sticks her tongue out at him. She then turns to me and gives me a smirk. “Let’s go,” she takes off running, tugging me to follow. Vickie lets go of my hand when she is sure that I am going to follow. She scoops up Rose and maneuvers her onto her back in practiced easy.
I laugh as I follow the florist, turned my now best friend. We take off down the street. I hear Jimmy and Sam curse at us before taking off after us as well. Vickie tugs my hand and makes a sharp left down an alley. I use the corner of the building to help make the turn. She laughs as she makes a sharp right.
“Vickie! I am supposed to be escorting the Luna back to Mike’s house!” Sam yells at the warrior.
“Then catch-up slow poke,” she taunts as she has us take another right.
“Where are we going!” I laugh. Crap, I’m so out of shape. I’m already winded from the two-block run. “Vickie,” I huff as I try to pull in a breath.
She turns and notices my struggle to breathe. “We need to work on your stamina,” she says as she stops running.
I just nod my head as I try to suck in a deep breath.
“Why?” Sam growls as he and Jimmy catches up.
“Why not?” Vickie laughs. She starts to walk back towards Uncle Mike’s house. “Okay, tomorrow morning we are going to go for a jog first thing in the morning. Once done, we will spend time pampering you and getting you ready for the pack meeting.”
I just nod my head, to winded to try and complain.
