"Jake, who hired you to deliver the milk to David Miller?"

The day after Agent Zhang left, Detective Ross came to my door again.

"It was a supplier from the city—a friend of mine. He said he was trying out e-commerce and actually got an order. When he saw it was for Wilsonville, he asked me to make the delivery."

I pointed to the box truck in my garage.

It was an ordinary 14-foot cargo van, nothing special.

"Did he provide any buyer information?"

"No, and I remember this clearly. He complained to me about how people can order things online anonymously now."

Another dead end.

Detective Ross sat under the big oak tree in Wilsonville, scratching his head in frustration, lighting a cigarette.

What was the killer trying to accomplish?

Who was he?

This serial murder case had affected too many people, creating an extremely bad situation. In both Wilsonville and the town, rumors spread that the police station was working with the killer.

Others said traffic cameras caught violations easily, but suddenly couldn't catch murder suspects.

Ross was furious.

"Nothing?"

Agent Zhang and his team also came to the oak tree.

"Yeah. What about you—any leads?"

Zhang smiled bitterly.

"I investigated all the delis and tofu shops in town and the surrounding area. They all have proper disposal methods for their brine, and none of them have the capacity to fit an entire person in a pot."

"Although victim Louis Tucker was dismembered, only his head was severed and both arms broken. The medical examiner found no evidence the killer had folded the body."

"Tucker was five-foot-seven. His head was nine inches. That means the pot would need to be either four-and-a-half feet deep or four-and-a-half feet wide to fully submerge the body."

Ross suddenly looked at something in the distance and slapped his forehead.

"Agent Zhang, I think we've been stuck in the wrong mindset. What if it wasn't a pot? What if it was a barrel? Or some other container?"

Zhang also froze. Right! They'd been assuming the killer wanted to marinate the body in brine, but there was no heating involved—just soaking.

In that case, many more things would work.

"Let's go. We'll search house by house."

The two split up and began searching Wilsonville.

And they actually found it.
