The Lilith Protocol Chapter 12

Everyone seemed to be watching me.

After coming down from the terrace, wherever I went, someone was behind me.

It must be Walter. He'd deliberately attracted fire to me.

"Where's Walter? I haven't seen him."

"You're right, I haven't seen him either. Maybe he went to find clues."

Number two scratched his head.

"I don't have any leads right now. Let's go find him together."

I glanced inconspicuously at the sky.

It was getting dark. Soon it would be the third day—Lilith's Soul Return Night.

In the castle's basement, there was a room specifically for worshipping a statue.

I'd been to this room several times but hadn't found anything unusual.

"Walter's not even here. Where could he be?"

I stood in the room, seeing it empty, my heart uneasy.

"I don't know either."

Number two shook his head.

My intuition: he and Walter had teamed up.

Though I didn't know what method the latter used to persuade him.

Suddenly, I noticed a journal beneath the statue.

I'd flipped through this journal many times before, but by some strange compulsion, I stepped forward and opened it again.

The first thing I saw made my vision go dark.

"Seeing the children run freely, I'm gratified. Heaven has finally returned their freedom to them."

When I'd read this content last time, I thought it was normal. But now my mindset was completely opposite.

I quickly flipped back.

"Children are all angels from heaven. Even if incomplete, they're all lights of the town, bringing us much hope."

"The town's anniversary is here. I hope God will grant these little angels some good fortune."

The earlier entries seemed normal enough. I flipped through everything but didn't see any other information.

"No, no, there must be more."

I muttered, searching through boxes and cabinets.

This meant the town's children were all disabled.

So there should be earlier records.

I didn't find journals from earlier dates, but I found a small piece of red fabric fiber right in front of the statue.

There was even some completely burned ash—apparently not cleaned up properly.

Could this be some kind of sacrifice ritual?

Was Lilith sacrificed?
