The Lilith Protocol Chapter 5
I found this amusing and deliberately reached out to pat his head.
This action scared him badly—he started wailing.
"I'm a player too. Stop screaming."
Seeing I really didn't have a knife or any other weapon, number ten slowly calmed down.
"You scared me to death. You didn't make a sound—it was really frightening."
"Why are you so afraid? Didn't Walter say it was just a prop?"
Fear was normal, but being this terrified was unusual.
"Haven't you noticed the pattern? The first body we found was number twelve, then number eleven. So next, won't it be me?"
Number ten was so nervous he could barely speak clearly.
"You might have a point there."
I nodded and deliberately moved away from him.
He nodded gratefully at me and hurried off.
The storage room did have candles—I'd guessed right. But I wasn't alone in the storage room.
"Give me the candles."
Number nine had somehow also snuck out of the room.
Seeing me, he immediately put his hand holding the candles behind his back.
"No way. I found them first."
I blocked the doorway so he couldn't leave, which made him angry. We fought briefly.
"Enough! It's just a candle. Not doing this task won't kill you."
Because I was too difficult to deal with, number nine eventually gave up and let me have the candles.
"Thanks."
Satisfied, I pocketed the candles, waited until number nine left, then started moving, quickly leaving to find a safe place.
Actually, this wasn't a game at all.
Those two bodies weren't props either.
Twelve people total, twelve rounds of the game.
Players who didn't complete their tasks would die—but only one person died per round.
However, there were only twelve tasks total.
Tasks were limited. Which meant if you completed someone else's task, you could survive.
