The Lilith Protocol Chapter 4
This was a group of four, but from what I'd observed, they didn't know each other before coming here.
I could feel their eyes sizing me up, but unfortunately the light was too dim for them to see anything.
"What's your number?"
"I'm number three."
I quickly responded.
"I'm number two. They're numbers five, eight, and nine."
They agreed to let me join and introduced everyone.
As I walked behind them, I heard their whispers.
"Number three is a pianist. That profession shouldn't pose much threat to us, right?"
"Probably not, but we need to be careful about everything."
We found an extremely large room with thick carpet on the floor.
"Let's rest here. Tomorrow is the Sacrifice Day—we still need to find candles and matches."
Number two's casual remark made everyone's expressions change.
Mine too.
Tomorrow is Sacrifice Day? What kind of plot point is that?
It must be a hidden task.
Since he'd revealed the task out loud, it was now a race for speed.
Sure enough, someone started probing.
"Yeah, but do you remember how to get to the sacrifice location?"
At this question, everyone held their breath, waiting for number two's answer.
"Of course I remember. It's the room where we all debriefed—should be the living room on this floor."
After that, their conversation became less important.
I wanted to sneak out in the darkness to find props.
"Number three, are you asleep? How come we haven't heard you say anything?"
Just as I was about to slip out the door, I was suddenly called out.
"Mmm, I'm tired."
I tried my best to sound sleepy, then slipped out while they were still talking.
Candles—those kinds of things should be in the storage room, right?
The hallway had weak lighting that let me barely see where I was stepping.
I remembered seeing a room earlier filled with miscellaneous items.
Walking along, I ran straight into someone.
Looking up, it was number ten.
I had a strong impression of him because he was very thin and small—about the size of an underage girl.
Number ten's voice carried obvious panic.
"Don't kill me! Please, don't kill me."
