The Lilith Protocol Chapter 8

I took the opportunity to step forward, arranged the candles, and lit them in one smooth motion.

"I've got this."

I smiled at number two.

Number two even looked at me with something like gratitude.

Idiot. I didn't light them to help you.

The ceremony began quickly. They chanted in the front while I stood in the back row with my head bowed, looking devout.

But I was very confused.

The new round clearly hadn't started yet. Why was number one already gone?

Could number seven's profession involve something more sinister?

Everyone suspected number seven.

After the sacrifice ceremony ended, our movements were unrestricted.

After leaving the terrace, everyone turned to look at numbers four and seven.

"Are you two working together to deceive people?"

Numbers five and three others surrounded number seven.

"Everything I said was true. You're slandering me. That's too much."

Facing so many people, number seven showed no panic whatsoever.

While they were still entangled, I returned to the terrace where the sacrifice had been held.

The people in goat masks hadn't left yet. They were slowly cleaning up.

When they'd come for me, their speed had been almost invisible.

This must be some kind of hint.

"Hello, do you need help?"

One of the goat masks looked at me. For some reason, I felt pressure.

"I want to learn more about Lilith. Do you know anything?"

I hadn't expected much, but surprisingly the goat mask actually began to speak slowly.

"Lilith was a very lovely girl. She often helped children with disabilities."

"Everyone in the town loved her. She was very sunny and loved wearing red dresses."

This wasn't getting to the point at all.

"Do you know what her favorite song was?"

"She loved many songs and everything in this world, but her favorite was the moon."

At this point, the goat mask seemed to smile.

"Coincidentally, tonight is a full moon."

Piano pieces related to the moon were countless.

But since Lilith was a little girl, she probably liked nursery rhymes, right?

I wanted to ask more details, but Walter noticed I was missing and came looking.

"Number three, don't wander around alone. We suspect the castle isn't safe now, and death seems completely random."

He said seriously.
