The Lilith Protocol Chapter 15
Number eight, who'd been silent this whole time, suddenly asked after watching number four lead us aimlessly around:
"Four, what's your real identity?"
"My identity is just an invited guest. Why?"
"No, it's not just that."
Number eight suddenly stepped back.
His movement made the other nervous people copy him.
Number four seemed to quickly pocket something. His movement was fast, but we still saw it.
"What's in your hand?"
"Four, I trusted you so much. I can't believe you'd lie to me too."
Several people erupted again.
Under everyone's pressure, number four finally handed over what he was holding.
It was a knife.
Number eight gasped.
"Why do you have a knife? This is just a game. Are you really planning to kill people?"
"I was just worried someone might attack me, so I kept it for self-defense."
Number four said earnestly.
"If I could kill people, I would've won already, wouldn't I?"
He appealed to both emotion and reason, finally making the other three temporarily believe him.
But number eight insisted on going alone.
After much hesitation, I caught up with him.
"If you ask me, number three is the most suspicious. She's always wandering around."
Number four was still misleading the others.
Lonely number eight hadn't expected anyone to trust him. Seeing me choose to follow, he was somewhat moved.
"I'm curious—do you know something?"
Hearing my question, number eight generously told me what he knew.
"Number twelve and I are friends. We're both detectives investigating number four's identity."
"I suspect four is an assassin, but that's not the right answer. There must be something else going on."
We chatted as we walked, when suddenly we saw a hand hanging limply from under the dining table.
This scene startled me.
Number eight and I gathered our courage and approached, discovering it was actually Walter. He seemed to have stopped breathing.
"Four definitely has a problem. It must have been four."
Number eight was terrified. After recognizing the person, he immediately backed away.
I bit my lip and searched Walter's pockets.
I really did find something.
