The Widow's Secret Chapter 5
When I got home to change clothes, Lana had already changed and was ready to go out with me.
"Oh? Going to apologize?"
I have a tendency to run my mouth, but Lana seemed like a different person.
"Yes, Mrs. Miller's had it tough. If it weren't for you..."
All my witty remarks died in that moment. I stared at Lana like I was seeing a ghost.
"What are you standing there for? Let's go."
"Oh, right. Okay."
I quickly locked the door and headed to the village edge with Lana.
Mrs. Miller had already prepared the meal—two dishes, a small plate of beef, and a plate of peanuts.
"You're here. Sit down. I'm making soup in the kitchen. I'll be right out."
Mrs. Miller placed chopsticks on the table and hurried back to the kitchen with small steps.
Lana and I didn't sit down. After all, the host hadn't sat yet—it would be rude.
About five or six minutes later, Mrs. Miller came out carrying a pot of seaweed and egg drop soup, looking surprised at Lana and me.
"Sit down! No need to be shy at my place."
Only then did Lana and I take our seats. I have to say, Mrs. Miller's cooking was really good. I wished Lana had these culinary skills.
I muttered this quietly, but both Lana and Mrs. Miller heard...
The embarrassment made me want to dig a hole and hide in it.
"Haha, Lana's not bad either. After all, she's not from around here—different tastes." Mrs. Miller laughed, breaking the awkward atmosphere.
Lana glared at me hard. I figured it would take three to five rounds tonight to make things right.
"Mrs. Miller, I actually came today to apologize to you."
In the middle of eating, Lana suddenly dropped this bombshell.
I looked at Lana like I'd seen a ghost...
Apologize?
This...
Honestly, in all the time I'd been with Lana, I'd never seen this side of her.
Mrs. Miller was gracious. The two of them seemed to make peace, even agreeing that after the busy farming season, Lana would learn to cook from Mrs. Miller.
