The Widow's Secret Chapter 8
I fled the police station as fast as I could.
I felt like my speed would make Usain Bolt say "damn."
When I got home, my house was surrounded by people, led by Captain Wilson.
They looked at me strangely.
"What... what's wrong?"
I felt a bit guilty.
"What's going on? Was it Lana?"
Wilson stared at me, his presence somewhat intimidating.
Mrs. Miller was well-liked in the village, though of course there were also rubberneckers.
"No. I already provided the officers with our alibi. We'll see what their investigation turns up."
The villagers were skeptical, thinking who knows what, but Wilson believed me. After dispersing the crowd, I went back inside.
Where did Lana go?
I was very confused.
Had she encountered some danger?
I'd called countless times, but it kept saying the phone was off.
My heart grew increasingly agitated.
I didn't go out to work all afternoon. I searched the entire village and even checked the surveillance footage at the village office.
But rural surveillance was practically useless—no discoveries.
Lana, where did my Lana go?
My steps were hurried. After wandering around, I ended up back home.
But as soon as I got home, I smelled a pungent, bloody odor!
Lana!
Lana was huddled under the covers, covered in blood!
"Lana, did you kill someone?"
