"Put me down!"

The sound of Carrie's angered screech abruptly distracted her attention from her mate, making her turn her head and watch as Nathan had her friend draped over his broad shoulder, the lower part of her ass cheeks visible from underneath those short jeans as she squirmed and kicked her legs, unfortunately not managing to do anything as he casually walked in their direction with a smirk and a totally relaxed attitude, completely ignoring her.

"Nathan, I swear I'm gonna murder your annoying ass!"

Jessica's cheeks filled with warmth as she watched Nathan's expression turn with a mild frown, followed by a light but audible smack over Carrie's ass.

Her friend immediately squealed with surprise, making her startle a little and blink.

"Nathan!"

"Having fun guys?" Nathan said as he stopped right next to her and David, looking between them with mild interest and a raised brow.

"Nathan! Put me down right now!" She could hear Carrie angrily yelling from behind his back, futilely thrashing in his hold until he suddenly smacked her ass-cheek again, making her squeal again.

"You motherfucker!"

She startled as another smack followed, starting to feel kinda embarrassed and weirded-out by the whole situation, her gaze consciously avoiding to slip back to David as she continued to cluelessly look at Nathan.

"If you'll excuse us now, I think she needs a little scolding for that potty mouth of hers since her mommy or daddy hadn't bothered to properly teach her how to behave," He said with a wink, followed by Carrie's frustrated growl resounding from behind his back in response.

"You fucking-" Her friend squealed again as another smack followed, Nathan's head lightly shaking with mocking disapproval as he tutted.

"Such bratty behavior,"

"That's not how a lady should talk now, isn't it?" He scoldingly asked as he turned his head to peer at the side of Carrie's ass, making her feel so incredibly awkward as she momentarily lowered her gaze and tucked a rebel strand behind her ear.

"I'll leave you guys to it then," She heard Nathan say before she raised her gaze again and watched him walk away with Carrie still squirming and punching at his back.

"No! Nate, please I have to go back! We can't leave her alone with him! She's..."

She mentally cringed at the sound of those words mindlessly tumbling out of her friend's loud mouth as they drifted further and further away from them. Her cheeks burned as she kept her gaze averted somewhere to the side, evidently feeling so embarrassed now as she was pretty much aware that David had heard that too, hesitating to face him again for obvious reasons.

"We can stay here if it makes you feel...safer,"

She winced as his voice sounded so pained and deflated, her wolf whining inside of her as her gaze darted to him before she could stop herself, noticing that mournful look in her mate's chocolate eyes as she quickly remembered that he'd asked her if she wanted to go for a walk with him earlier before...whatever that was.

"No, it's okay," She rushed to say with a timid and apologetic smile, feeling her heart-rate pick up again as she caught herself staring at him again for longer than necessary.

He was so cute. Why did he have to be so damn fucking cute?

She thickly swallowed as she watched those sexy dimples appear in his cheeks as he offered her a light smile, his beautiful eyes twinkling with a spark of hope.

"So...do you wanna go now or...?"

She blinked a few times, snapping herself out of that trance as she watched him anxiously rub his hand over the back of his neck and look at her with a hint of unease, the sight of it so damn sweet and endearing.

He looked like a freaking little schoolboy in love.

*Sure, if schoolboys were ever to be this big and intimidating.*

She snickered at her own silly thoughts, drawing his attention as he stared at her in wonder for a moment before she shook those thoughts away and grabbed his hand with a bout of confidence, throwing caution to the wind as she turned around and started walking, dragging him after her.

He whistled as he propped himself on his elbows against the deserted car right next to her whilst she sat on it with her legs dangling in the air, both keeping their attention trained on that chunk of night sky visible from between the trees' dense coronas.

Speckles of stardust painted the navy blue canvas, their light so dim yet shimmery as they twinkled from time to time, creating such a beautiful and ethereal scene.

Darkness and quiet surrounded them, providing them with a sense of peace and privacy as they sat there, side by side, having yet to utter any words ever since they'd stopped ambling around through the woods and chosen this spot to take a break.

"Beautiful, isn't it?" She said with a smile, unaware of the fact that he wasn't looking at the sky anymore as she heard him heavily say with conviction,

"Very,"

She frowned at that certain lilt in his tone, turning her head to look at him. She immediately blushed upon noticing that glint his eyes as he looked right back at her, thankful for that natural shade enveloping them as there wasn't much light from the moon passing through the thick branches and foliage tonight.

She only spent a few seconds more staring back at him, intimidated by that intensity in his gaze as she averted hers back to the sky and cleared out her throat. She mildly shivered as a soft breeze trailed over every uncovered area of her skin, making her instinctually cross her arms over her chest.

The action didn't go unnoticed by his keen and much sharper sight, smothering his desire to wrap his arms around her delicate body and warm her up with the heat from his as he casually asked,

"Hey, are you cold?"

But he didn't wait for her to answer either as he straightened himself up and shrugged off his jacket, stepping in front of her before draping it over her thin shoulders with gentle and careful moves.

She quietly sighed at the feel of it, his lingering warmth enveloping her like a soothing embrace, inhaling that maddening scent of his with every breath.

"We can go back to the fire if you want to,"

Her gaze rose to meet his, offering him a small smile as she hurried to decline,

"No, it's okay. I'm fine,"

She really was. She liked being here, with him, in this moment. She may have felt a little apprehensive earlier when they arrived to the party but right now, she didn't feel any of that. She felt...safe and peaceful, and cared for by him. *Her mate.*
