Rebirth: Mommy's Revenge Chapter 311: Christina, Long Time No See
There was no other way. William and Christina had agreed to play the role of a loving couple in public.
So, even though she was reluctant, Christina let him hold her hand until they left the preschool and got into the car. Christina sat in the back seat with Harper, finally feeling a bit of relief.
For some reason, or maybe it was just her personal feelings, every time Christina was near William, or even just alone with him, she felt an indescribable awkwardness, but mostly resistance.
Deciding not to dwell on it, Christina turned her attention to Harper sitting beside her.
"Harper, did you have fun at preschool today?"
Harper nodded earnestly, her face full of eagerness to share.
"Mom, I had so much fun today! Guess what? Isaac got in trouble because he was too naughty."
"But he's my best friend, so I kept comforting him, and then..."
As Harper animatedly recounted her day, Christina listened attentively, occasionally chiming in with a word or two.
Harper's need to share was satisfied, and her face and eyes were filled with happiness.
William, who was driving, noticed the scene in the back seat and couldn't help but smile.
He had noticed Christina's awkwardness and resistance towards him earlier, but since she wasn't ready, he couldn't force it.
As long as he could witness this warm moment, he was content.
After all, there was plenty of time. He believed that one day Christina would accept him.
For now, he couldn't rush things.
As the car drove on, Christina gently guided Harper.
"Harper, later Mommy is going to take you to meet a lady. She'll chat with you for a bit, okay?"
Harper blinked her big eyes, full of confusion.
"Why do I need to talk to her? Can't Mommy chat with me?"
Christina's smile grew even softer.
She gently held Harper's small hand and explained in a tender voice, "If you want, Mommy can chat with you every day."
"But this lady is a good friend of Mommy's. She wants to meet you and be your friend. Wouldn't you like to have another friend?"
"A friend..."
Harper's face showed some hesitation, but thinking about how gentle her mom was, she figured her mom's friend must be gentle too.
So she reluctantly nodded and agreed.
"Okay, for Mommy, I'll be friends with her!"
Seeing Harper's grown-up-like behavior, Christina couldn't help but laugh.
Harper was easy to please. As long as she could make a new friend, she believed anything.
Christina felt a sense of relief.
She glanced at William, who was driving, and couldn't help but think of another matter.
It was about a woman named Thora.
Thora had appeared suddenly and then disappeared just as suddenly.
One day, Harper suddenly remembered Christina, but her memories of Thora were all jumbled up.
It was like Harper had two moms, but if you asked her to explain, she couldn't.
Plus, Harper's personality had changed recently, which worried Christina a lot.
If she didn't figure out the reason soon, Christina wouldn't be able to rest easy.
The car soon stopped in front of a well-kept villa.
They got out with Harper, and a gentle-looking woman in a white dress came out to greet them.
She smiled and waved at them, then gave Christina a warm smile.
"Christina, it's been ages!"
Christina was momentarily stunned. This was her good friend from abroad, Elara West.
Seeing her old friend again, Christina couldn't help but smile.
"Elara, it's been too long."
Christina stepped forward and gave Elara a light hug.
They exchanged smiles, and then Elara turned her attention to Harper, crouching down and extending her hand.
"This must be Harper. Hi, I'm Elara West."
Harper's big eyes sparkled as she looked at the gentle Elara, instantly feeling a strong liking for her.
She extended her hand and shook Elara's.
"Hi, Ms. West, I'm Harper."
Harper's serious demeanor made Elara chuckle, her heart melting.
"Harper, you're so cute. Would you like to be friends with me?"
Thanks to Christina's earlier preparation, Harper accepted the idea quickly.
Plus, Elara was very pretty, and Harper genuinely liked her, so she nodded confidently.
"Sure, even though you're just a tiny bit less awesome than Mommy, you're still a great friend!"
Elara couldn't help but laugh again at Harper's earnestness.
She looked at Christina with envy. "I'm so jealous you have such a cute and beautiful daughter. I wish I had a daughter like her."
Christina laughed and teased, "Well, talk it over with your husband. Maybe you can have a daughter too. If it's a boy, we can arrange a little marriage with Harper."
"Oh, please."
Elara rolled her eyes and joked, "Boys are nothing compared to girls. I'm focused on my career right now. I'll think about kids in a few years."
Then she glanced at William with clear disdain, though she didn't say anything in front of Harper.
But once Christina and Harper were exploring the garden, Elara couldn't help but scoff.
"I thought you had disappeared as a father. At least you showed up today to be with Harper."
William knew he had messed up, and even Elara didn't like him.
So he didn't explain, but said seriously, "I'll make it up to them. No matter what it takes, even if I can't be with Christina, as long as she's happy, I'll be satisfied."
William's earnest expression made Elara pause.
But she still huffed, "I hope so. Talk is cheap. Let's see some real action!"
