Rebirth: Mommy's Revenge Chapter 318: Innocent Child
To be honest, Casey had mixed feelings about Thora now.
He still liked her, but the Thora standing before him was different from the one he remembered.
With a sigh, Casey looked away and shook his head helplessly.
Kids are so innocent. If he could avoid it, he really didn't want to hurt that sweet child.
But thinking about the pain Thora had been through recently, all of it caused by William and Christina, he had no choice.
Casey shook his head again and quickly dialed a number on his phone.
"Hey, get over here ASAP. We need to talk."
Meanwhile, Harper was getting tired from playing and ran over to Christina, gently tugging on her hand.
"Mommy, I'm a little tired."
Kids have boundless energy, but they also get sleepy quickly.
"How about Mommy takes you inside to rest for a bit?"
Harper nodded and let Christina pick her up, wrapping her arms tightly around her shoulders.
"Mommy, I missed you so much..."
Harper's eyes were barely open, and her sleepy murmurs made Christina's heart melt.
Christina gently laid Harper on the bed and watched her fall asleep before turning away.
"Alright, let her sleep."
Elara gently took Christina's hand. "We haven't had a good chat in so long. Now that the kids aren't around, let's catch up outside?"
Christina nodded, and they walked back to the garden, arm in arm.
For the next few days, because Harper needed treatment, Christina mostly stayed with Elara.
Having her mom around made Harper incredibly happy.
She went to school every day with a smile, though she sometimes felt a bit sad thinking about her dad.
"Mommy, when is Daddy coming?"
Seeing the hopeful look on Harper's face, Christina, despite her reluctance, smiled gently for her child's sake.
"Daddy's been busy lately, but he's free now. If you want to see him, we can go stay with him for a few days. How does that sound?"
Harper's eyes lit up, and she nodded quickly, afraid Christina might change her mind.
"Yes, yes! Let's go tonight!"
Seeing Harper's excitement, Christina felt a pang of guilt.
Her child was so cautious, even asking for permission to see her dad.
It seemed that, no matter her feelings, she couldn't keep Harper from William for too long.
For Harper's sake, she had to make some sacrifices.
"If Mommy doesn't want to see Daddy, it's okay!"
Children are sensitive to emotions. Though Harper didn't understand why, she could sense Christina's sadness.
Harper's words made Christina pause, then she quickly shook her head with a smile.
"Mommy wants to see Daddy. I was just thinking about work. Don't worry, Harper."
Christina gently stroked Harper's hair, meeting Elara's sympathetic gaze.
Elara knew there was no other way. For Harper's mental health, this was necessary.
After saying goodbye to Elara, Christina took Harper home.
As they opened the door to their villa, they saw William coming out of the bathroom in a white bathrobe.
His broad shoulders and narrow waist were visible, with water droplets still clinging to his chest, creating a steamy, enticing image.
William was surprised to see Christina suddenly return with Harper.
Christina's face turned red, and she quickly pulled Harper away before she could see William, taking her to the children's room.
What had she just seen?
Christina touched her warm cheeks, trying to calm her racing heart, and forced a smile at Harper.
"Harper, be good and play here for a bit. Mommy will be right back."
Harper nodded seriously, puzzled by her mom's reaction but obediently said nothing.
Christina took a deep breath and stepped out of the children's room.
She ran into William, who was now dressed, looking both embarrassed and apologetic, but mostly frustrated.
If this incident made Christina dislike him even more...
"Sorry, I didn't know you and Harper would be back now. I didn't mean to..."
William looked genuinely apologetic, but Christina waved it off.
"It's okay. I should have called ahead."
If she had called, this awkward situation wouldn't have happened.
They stood in silence, the atmosphere growing increasingly uncomfortable.
"Um..."
William bit his lip, breaking the awkward silence.
"There's something I want to discuss with you. Is now a good time?"
"What is it?"
Christina felt a bit relieved that he spoke first.
"It's nothing major."
William spoke cautiously, watching her closely. Seeing she didn't respond immediately, he felt a pang of disappointment.
"I want to start a charity for children's diseases. There's a press conference in a week."
Christina understood his implication.
"That's a great idea. So, you want me to join you at the press conference?"
"Yes."
William nodded, hesitating as he watched her expression. When she didn't answer right away, he felt even more disheartened.
"I thought if you joined, since Harper had leukemia, our family being there would make a bigger impact and help more kids..."
"Okay, I'll do it."
Before he could finish, Christina nodded.
William was surprised. "You will?"
He had prepared himself for her refusal and was ready to attend alone.
"Yes."
Christina nodded again, seeing his surprise and explaining casually, "If it helps save sick kids, it's worth it. Don't overthink it."
Her indifferent expression and tone left William's smile frozen.
Finally, he managed a smile. "Great, I'll pick you up then."
