Rebirth: Mommy's Revenge Chapter 323: Of Course, It's Not Excessive
But there was no other way.
To get news about Christina and Harper as soon as possible, he had to suppress his frustration and said coldly, "Hurry up, we can't..."
He took a deep breath and continued, "We can't let anything else happen to them!"
William's voice trembled slightly, and he clenched his jaw, not daring to think further.
The memories of losing Christina in the past, and the chance to get her back, made him believe that fate had given him another opportunity, perhaps forgiving his past mistakes.
But this time...
Thinking of this, William's voice turned icy.
"Check all suspicious vehicles that entered and exited the press conference today. Find that security guard!"
"Yes, sir!"
It had been over three hours.
Christina and Harper were still tied to their chairs, their hands and feet bound.
Seeing Harper's swollen ankle, Christina glanced at the man sitting in the chair, scrolling through his phone. Her eyes flickered with an idea.
"Hey, your goal is just to make us disappear for a few days, right?"
"Look, our hands and feet are swollen. The ropes are too tight. Could you loosen them a bit? We can't run anyway, and if we get injured, it won't look good on you, right?"
The man looked them over and saw that their hands and feet were indeed swollen.
He remembered a girl he had tied up before, whose limbs nearly got damaged because the ropes were too tight.
The man frowned but, recalling Casey's instructions, stepped forward and loosened the ropes on Christina and Harper's hands and feet.
However, their feet were still chained to a nearby pillar.
In other words, even if they wanted to run, they couldn't.
"Alright, anything else?"
The man lazily glanced at her.
Christina gathered her courage and looked him straight in the eye.
"Do you have anything to eat?"
Christina figured that the man wouldn't really harm them, so as long as her requests weren't too outrageous, their lives wouldn't be in danger.
The man was visibly annoyed.
He had just loosened their ropes, and now Christina had the nerve to ask for food!
He was a bit exasperated. In all his years, he had never met such a bold woman!
He pulled his cap lower and glared at Christina.
Although Christina couldn't see his expression, she could feel his frustration.
But she wasn't afraid and continued to stare at him.
"I think since your boss said not to harm us, just to make us disappear for a few days..."
"Then asking for some food shouldn't be too much, right?"
The man exhaled deeply, his voice low and slightly hoarse with anger.
"Of course, it's not too much."
If Christina hadn't asked, he wouldn't have starved them anyway. He just didn't expect Christina to be so bold, showing no fear at all.
Christina raised an eyebrow, seeing the man's anger but knowing she had won this round. She said nothing more and held her daughter close, closing her eyes to rest.
Harper, nestled in Christina's arms, blinked and felt her mother's body relax. She suddenly felt less scared.
"Mom, will we get out of here?" she tugged lightly at Christina's sleeve.
Feeling Harper's slightly tense body, Christina gently held her hand and looked at her firmly. "Don't worry, Harper. As long as I'm here, no one will hurt you."
Although she didn't know who was behind this, Christina had a hunch. The sudden appearance and disappearance of Thora, a mysterious woman with unclear ties to William. Even without concrete evidence, Christina felt this had something to do with Thora. But she couldn't be sure.
Mother and daughter leaned on each other. Soon, several men in black clothes, masks, and hats arrived, standing respectfully behind the man. They carried food containers and lunch boxes.
The man placed the lunch boxes a short distance from them. He then stepped back and said lazily, "Here's your food. We'll bring you meals twice a day. You'll be staying here for now."
With that, he and his men left.
Christina held Harper, still unsure of what was happening. After they left, and about half an hour passed, Christina finally relaxed a bit. She gently stroked Harper's hair, seeing her daughter's scared but brave face.
Her heart softened. "Harper, we're safe for now."
Harper clung to Christina's arm and nodded slightly. "Mom, when will Dad come to save us?"
Christina took a deep breath, trying to sound less worried. "Dad will come for us soon. Don't be afraid, I'm here."
She believed the men wouldn't harm them, and the food was likely safe. If they wanted to harm them, they would have done so already, without bothering with the food.
With that in mind, Christina quickly opened the lunch box. Seeing the warm food inside, she and Harper ate a bit to regain their strength. Then she looked around. Besides a usable toilet, there were a few simple mats on the floor. Nothing else.
She had tried the chains on their feet earlier, but they wouldn't budge. There were no tools to break them. The man had prepared everything in advance, setting up before capturing them. It seemed they would be here for a while. At least they would be fed twice a day, ensuring their safety for now.
