Rebirth: Mommy's Revenge Chapter 328: The Great Hero
Seeing the serious look on her face, William's heart sank. He had a pretty good idea of what Christina wanted to discuss.
"Christina..."
"William."
Christina cut him off, her voice steady, "You know why I called you. You know what this is about."
William nodded, "It's about Thora, isn't it?"
"Yeah."
Christina's eyes bore into him, "It's been ages, and you still haven't found any leads on Thora?"
"I'm sorry, Christina," William said, avoiding her gaze, "I've got people on it. I believe we'll have some answers soon."
"Forget it."
Christina shook her head, her voice tinged with disappointment and resignation.
"It's been so long, and you still haven't found anything. Thora must have some powerful backer or come from a prominent family."
"No way."
William shook his head firmly, "If Thora was really that prominent, then why did she say her husband died, she had no kids, and she was so fond of Harper?"
Seeing Christina's hesitation, William tried to reassure her.
"Don't worry, for you and Harper, I'll get to the bottom of this, no matter what."
Christina just nodded casually and then shifted the topic to the kidnapping.
"By the way, this kidnapping wasn't straightforward."
She then told William about encountering Jennifer during the kidnapping.
William frowned deeply, "You saw Jennifer?"
Christina nodded, then shook her head.
"We're not sure. Jennifer's face was completely covered, but her voice was exactly like Jennifer's."
"She said she'd make us regret it and wouldn't let us live peacefully."
"Christina, don't worry."
William felt there was some connection between this and Thora, but he couldn't quite figure it out.
He furrowed his brow and said seriously, "If Jennifer is alive, then Thora's story about Jennifer jumping into the river is questionable. I'll investigate thoroughly."
What Christina said was a new lead for William.
His private investigators hadn't uncovered this.
Who knew that Christina and Harper's kidnapping would lead to such an important clue?
Luckily, neither mother nor daughter was harmed. Otherwise, William didn't know what he would have done.
"Alright."
Christina nodded, for once not disagreeing with William.
She knew that while William might not be reliable in other areas, the Cavendish family's connections were extensive.
Since he had found a lead, the rest should follow quickly.
For once, they didn't argue and were in harmony.
William cherished this moment and wanted to take the opportunity to talk more with Christina.
Christina was already lying on the hospital bed, her eyes half-closed.
"I'm a bit tired. Let's talk tomorrow."
She clearly didn't want to continue the conversation. William opened his mouth but ended up with a wry smile.
"Alright, get some rest. We'll talk when you're ready."
Christina nodded. Just as William was about to leave, she suddenly spoke.
"William."
He stopped and turned back to her.
Christina turned her head away, avoiding his gaze.
"Thank you."
It was just a simple sentence, but it left William speechless.
"It's nothing. It's what I should do."
He fumbled with his words before finally managing to say that.
Afterwards, he regretted it.
Christina rarely spoke to him, let alone thanked him.
He should have seized the opportunity to talk more.
But that one sentence left William unsure of what to say next, standing there awkwardly.
Christina could see William's hesitation but didn't want to continue. She said softly, "You should go."
"Okay."
Just being able to talk to Christina made William very happy.
His earlier disappointment vanished, replaced by motivation.
As long as Christina was willing to talk, even just a little, there was still hope!
Leaving the room, William saw Elara and Harper approaching.
Harper was smiling sweetly, saying something to Elara, who playfully tapped Harper's nose, making her laugh.
"Daddy, you're done talking with Mommy!"
Harper saw William and ran to him, jumping into his arms.
"Daddy is Harper's hero, saving Mommy and Harper. Besides Mommy, Harper loves Daddy the most!"
William's heart melted as he gently hugged Harper.
"Daddy loves Mommy and Harper the most too."
Seeing the father and daughter so happy, Elara pouted and teased.
"Looks like Harper forgot about me. I'm so sad."
Harper quickly turned to comfort Elara.
"Harper loves Ms. West too. Don't worry, Harper will be fair!"
Elara laughed and played with Harper a bit more before reluctantly leaving.
After Elara left, William took Harper back to the room.
Christina was half-asleep, sensing someone entering but not opening her eyes.
She seemed to hear Harper whispering.
"Shh, Mommy's sleeping. Daddy, don't wake her up!"
"Okay."
William smiled, "How about Harper comes home with Daddy tonight and lets Mommy sleep well in the hospital?"
During the kidnapping, Christina had protected Harper.
Harper, being strong, wasn't affected much.
But Christina, having given most of her food to Harper, had hurt her stomach.
