"Thanks, you look great today too."

Seeing her parents so in love made Harper incredibly happy.

She wore her hair in a princess style, donned a princess dress, and held William's hand with one of her own, while the other held Christina's. Her face beamed with a sweet smile.

"Daddy, Mommy, I feel like the happiest kid in the world right now!"

Christina smiled gently at Harper's content expression. Despite feeling a bit helpless inside, she thought she could endure it for the sake of her child's healthy growth.

Even the staff nearby couldn't help but express their envy.

"Mr. Cavendish and Mrs. Cavendish are so loving, and their little girl is just adorable. They're so lucky."

"Yeah, and they make such a perfect couple. Their child inherited their good genes and is really beautiful."

Hearing these comments, Christina's expression became a bit awkward.

She couldn't refute them, so she changed the subject.

"By the way, is it time yet?"

William glanced at his watch and nodded.

"We have half an hour left, just enough time to get to the venue. Let's go."

With that, he picked up Harper, and the family of three left the private club, quickly arriving at the press conference site.

At this point, there were still ten minutes before the press conference started.

The three of them waited backstage. The security was well-prepared today, so William wasn't worried about any unexpected incidents.

Christina casually picked up some of William's drafted proposals for the foundation from the table and glanced through them.

To her surprise, she found them incredibly detailed and thorough.

She had thought William was already talented in business, but this draft covered everything comprehensively.

Even though it was just a draft, it had considered almost everything necessary.

Once the foundation was established, it would benefit countless children suffering from serious illnesses.

Christina sat there, lost in thought.

"What are you thinking about, Mommy? You seem so absorbed."

Harper's voice broke Christina's reverie as she gently held her hand.

"Harper needs to go potty. Can Mommy come with Harper?"

With about six or seven minutes left before the press conference started, Christina thought for a moment and then nodded.

They headed towards the nearby restroom.

William glanced at them but didn't think much of it, returning his focus to his preparations.

Little did he know, a man in a security uniform, with his hat pulled low, calmly walked past the lounge, just about 66 feet away from Christina and Harper.

Harper was still chattering away, and Christina listened attentively, not sensing anything amiss.

It wasn't until they entered the restroom and closed the door that the door was suddenly forced open from the outside!

"Bang!"

The loud noise startled Christina.

She instinctively turned around, shielding Harper behind her.

Seeing the unfamiliar man in front of her, Christina's eyes widened in fear as she tightly protected Harper.

"Who are you? What do you want?"

The man didn't respond, pulling his hat even lower to obscure his face.

He grabbed Christina's arm, and before she could scream, he pressed a cloth over her nose.

The next second, Christina's vision went black, and she passed out.

Harper, witnessing this, was almost paralyzed with fear.

She forgot to scream, forgot to run, until the man's gaze fell on her. Only then did she instinctively turn to find a place to hide.

The man, unhurried, picked up the cloth and, bending down, pressed it over Harper's nose.

Seeing both mother and daughter unconscious, the man glanced at the door.

Soon, someone approached, pushing a trash bin past them.

William waited in the lounge for three minutes. With only two minutes left before the start, he frowned.

"Go check on my wife and daughter."

"Yes, sir."

The attendant quickly left.

But after two minutes, Christina and Harper still hadn't returned, and a sense of dread settled in William's heart.

His face darkened as he stood up abruptly and headed out.

Bob, seeing this, hurried after him.

"Mr. Cavendish, the event is about to start. You can't just—"

"Have someone else cover for me. I need to check on Christina and Harper!"

Bob looked distressed, completely at a loss.

But William didn't spare him a glance, striding forward and coldly ordering, "Hurry up!"

Bob shivered and quickly went to make arrangements.

William strode to the women's restroom and knocked on the door.

After waiting a moment with no response, he kicked the door open.

The restroom was empty. Christina and Harper were nowhere to be seen.

Realizing they were missing, William's face turned as cold as ice. He took a deep breath and turned sharply.

Security personnel quickly approached, looking panicked.

"Mr. Cavendish, the reporters outside are getting restless. They’re asking why you haven't come out yet. What should we do?"

"The press conference will proceed as planned. Have the company's vice president take over. I have something urgent to handle."

"Get me the surveillance footage from the last two hours. Find anyone suspicious. Don't miss a single person!"

Facing William's icy gaze, the security guard shuddered and quickly lowered his head.

"Yes, sir!"

At the press conference, reporters and guests were growing impatient.

"It's been so long. Why haven't Mr. and Mrs. Cavendish come out with their child?"

"They say they're a loving couple, but maybe it's all an act. Did they have a fight right before the event?"

"Who knows? They said they were launching a foundation, but maybe it's just a publicity stunt."

Amidst the murmurs, the Cavendish Corporation's vice president, Eric Allen, stepped forward.

"Everyone, due to an urgent company meeting, Mr. and Mrs. Cavendish had to leave with their child. I'll be handling today's press conference."

His words sparked a flurry of questions.

"Mr. Allen, did something happen that required Mr. Cavendish to leave suddenly?"

"Mr. Allen, there are rumors that Mr. and Mrs. Cavendish's relationship is strained and their public displays of affection are just for show. Is there any truth to this?"

Eric, adept at handling such situations, stepped forward calmly.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I assure you, everything is under control. Mr. and Mrs. Cavendish are as committed as ever to their family and their philanthropic efforts. Now, let's proceed with the agenda for today."
