Rebirth: Mommy's Revenge Chapter 319: We Should Leave
Christina nodded, and the two fell silent again.
Just then, a clear, childlike voice piped up behind Christina.
"Mommy, what are you talking to Daddy about? Why can't Harper listen?"
Harper suddenly spoke, breaking the awkward silence.
Christina breathed a sigh of relief and quickly turned to look at the little girl behind her, taking Harper's small hand.
"Oh, nothing much, sweetie. Mommy's just chatting with Daddy. Are you bored? Do you want Mommy to play with you?"
Harper blinked, her eyes darting around mischievously, and she gave William a sweet smile.
"Can Harper have Mommy and Daddy play with her together?"
By now, night was falling, and Christina remembered that she and Harper had already had dinner at Elara's house. She was about to nod when William stepped forward, bent down slightly, and gently pinched Harper's cheek.
"Sure, Mommy and Daddy will play with Harper."
Harper jumped up happily, grabbing both their hands and pulling them towards the playroom next to the children's room.
Seeing her parents sitting behind her, Harper secretly smiled, her face full of sweetness and joy.
She had sensed earlier that something was off between her parents.
But being a child, she couldn't quite describe what was wrong, so she tried to bring them together.
After all, as long as Mommy and Daddy were with her, that strange atmosphere would disappear!
A week later.
Christina picked Harper up from preschool on time, holding her hand as they returned home.
She calculated the time; there were still two hours before the press conference.
Harper had eaten well at preschool and wasn't very hungry.
Christina played with Harper for a while until William came home from work.
Seeing the mother and daughter cuddled on the couch watching a family show, he couldn't help but smile.
During this week, Harper had been by Christina's side and was well taken care of, with no more emotional outbursts.
As Elara had said, treatment was important, but parental companionship was essential.
After this week, Harper would go back with Elara for her second round of treatment.
Thinking about how he wouldn't see Harper for another week after the press conference, and how Christina would return to her apartment, William felt a bit down and wished time would slow down.
"Daddy, you're back?"
Seeing William, Harper greeted him with a sweet smile.
"Yeah, are you watching cartoons with Mommy?"
Harper nodded seriously. "Yep, and Mommy said we're going to an event with Daddy later. When are we leaving? Harper can't wait!"
"We'll leave soon, don't worry."
William gently tapped Harper's nose and glanced at Christina, who looked indifferent.
"Christina, we should go."
Christina nodded and took William's hand.
William was startled and looked at Christina, but she didn't meet his gaze, instead smiling warmly at Harper.
"Harper, shall we go?"
Seeing her parents holding hands, Harper's eyes lit up, and she beamed.
"Okay!"
William felt a bit down but quickly perked up. It didn't matter if they were just pretending to be a loving couple for Harper's sake. At least Christina was willing to pretend, and that was enough.
He instinctively tightened his grip on Christina's hand and picked Harper up with his other arm. The family of three walked out, looking very much in love.
They got into the car, and the driver quickly took them to the venue for hair and makeup. When they got out, a crowd of reporters was already there, snapping photos.
"Mr. Cavendish, we didn't expect you and Mrs. Cavendish to be so in love. What are your thoughts on this press conference and the establishment of the charity fund?"
"Mrs. Cavendish, we heard your daughter recently recovered from leukemia. Do you have any comments on the charity fund's creation?"
The reporters bombarded them with questions, but William protected his wife and daughter, with security keeping the reporters at bay.
"Sorry, I'll answer all questions at the press conference."
"Please don't disturb my wife and daughter."
William said calmly, quickly escorting them into the private venue. The reporters, undeterred, waited outside for the family to reappear.
Meanwhile, in a nearby luxury car, Casey watched the reporters through the window and then looked away coldly. He held a phone, still on a call.
"Is everything arranged?"
"Don't worry, Mr. West. Everything is under control. No one will catch us."
Casey nodded and gave another order.
"Good. Just remember, if things go wrong, don't say I didn't warn you."
He hung up and told the driver, "Let's go watch the show."
The driver sped off, but just then, Casey received a call from Thora.
"Casey, where are you?"
Thora demanded, "I heard William and Christina are having a press conference. Aren't you going to do something?"
"Jennifer."
Casey explained patiently, "I'm handling it. Just wait for the news."
"You better be."
Thora snapped, hanging up. She watched the news, seething as William protected Christina and Harper into the venue. No way would she let this family be happy while she suffered!
Inside the venue, Christina finished her hair and makeup and changed into an elegant dress. When she stood before William and Harper, William's eyes showed a hint of amazement.
"Christina, you look beautiful today."
Christina just nodded, mindful of Harper's presence, and gave him a gentle smile.
