Darkness Chapter 32: Hidden Lies
**Vicent**
Listening to the pathetic little coward as Quinn interrogated her was quite the spectacle, especially with Nelly standing right beside me. Quinn seems to believe that I might just snap and do something drastic in response to his accusations of my going crazy and Nelly being pregnant. It almost made me wish that vampires could actually have children, just so Nelly could experience that joy. But alas, as vampires, procreation between two of our kind is simply not possible, no matter how much I may have wished otherwise. Brandon was actually right about that one thing, and it's a shame I can't fulfill that desire for Nelly. It's a real bummer for both her and me. I always dreamed of having kids, but this vampire life just doesn't allow for it. I don't have the necessary gene, and Nelly didn't either when she was still human. Oh well, such is the undead life, I suppose. Maybe testing could be done, but when I think about all of the harm it has already done, I am hesitant.
I clench my fists because I realize how unfair life is, whether human or vampire. Because the bitch who betrayed us has the gene to procreate with a vampire. I want to rip that baby from her womb and give it to my Nelly. However, I shake it off as Aaron comes in and starts his bullshit. When Nelly emerged and they laid eyes on her, my joy overflowed. They were completely clueless about the force standing before them. The moment she bit Aaron and then kissed me, well, let's just say things got steamy. I had to keep my cool, even though I was practically melting with desire for her. I wanted to rip her clothes off and fuck her right there.
I could tell she was toying with Aaron about turning him into a vampire, but I had an even better plan up my sleeve. As we drove back, Nelly was snuggled up in my lap, tracing her finger along my neck. I could tell she was lost in thought. "What's on your mind, my love?"
"Hmm...oh...it's nothing," she mumbles.
I grabbed her chin and forced her to look at me. "What?"
"It's just something Quinn said," she replies.
"He says a lot of crap. But what specifically?"
"I can't have children. It never occurred to me that I couldn't. It doesn't matter. I knew in my previous life it wasn't going to happen, so why does it bother me now?" she asks.
I saw tears welling up in her eyes. I realized that I needed to come up with a solution. I would get her what she wanted, and our little insurance policy was my way in. I would get her that baby and then either sell Tara off to a group for breeding or just get rid of her. "What are you thinking?" she asks.
"Nothing, dear. Just relax. We still have a long drive home."
When we arrived, I immediately had the guards escort Tara to the doctor, while Aaron was whisked away to our on-site lab. "You found them?" Alec inquires eagerly.
"Yes, and I need to speak with you," I reply.
"I'm gonna go lie down. I'm not feeling well," Nelly interjects. I walk over to her and reassure her with a kiss.
"Go ahead. You're still getting used to your vampire transformation. It'll take some time for your body to adjust," I say, giving her a comforting hug.
Nelly waves goodbye to Alec, "See you later."
Alec smiles at her, "See ya, Nelly." It's clear he had a crush on her when she was human, and now that she's a vampire, his feelings seem to have intensified. I can't help but chuckle, wondering if he'll ever admit it.
Alec follows me to my study. "What's up, boss?" he asks casually.
I respond dryly, "Tara is pregnant."
He nonchalantly shrugs and says, "Okay, so what?"
"More than likely, it's yours," I retort as he stares at me in disbelief. "It's a vampire's, and she was your pet, you clueless fool."
He shakes his head and replies, "Sorry, but it ain't mine."
I mockingly ask, "How were you two like damn rabbits then?"
"Let's just leave it at the fact that I know it's not mine," he says cryptically. What is he hiding? How can he be so sure?
"It's a vampire's, though Quinn could confirm that. Quinn wouldn't lie," I argue.
"Well, then she must have been fucking someone else," Alec suggests with a smirk.
"Who else was she left alone with? Her brother, and we know it's not his," I point out.
Alec pauses for a moment before exclaiming, "And wait...oh boss, I think I know, and boy, am I going to enjoy this!"
"Who?"
