“Hey Quinn,” she says with a smile.
“Hey, doll. How are you doing?” he asks.
“Good. Thanks again for your help getting Aaron and Tara. I can rest easier now,” she replies.
“It was well worth it. Especially their faces when they saw you alive,” he says.
I notice Quinn smiling at me. “What, dude?”
Quinn grins wider. “Nothing. I gotta go. Just watch Dylan.”
“We will.” We watch as Quinn shifts and runs off.
Nelly giggles, “I have to say that's pretty cool.”
“Ehh..I guess if you like walking around as a dog.”
“He's a wolf. Don't be jealous,” she replies.
I scoff at her. She's kidding, right? “I'm not jealous. Anyway...ready to go?”
“Yes, when I find my damn clothes. Where the hell did you toss them?”
I chuckle. “Yeah, I might have gotten a little carried away when we were in the heat of the moment. Let's go find your clothes and get home.”
“What's going on with dickhead Dylan?” she asks.
“He's trying to rally some rebels against us.”
Nelly shakes her head. “He doesn't have the following. People don't trust him. He's a flipper.”
“Found your panties!”
“Oh, thank god.”
“Oh, you wanted them back? What will you give me?” I tease.
She reaches for them as I dangle them over her head. “Vincent, give me them!”
“Make me!” Yeah, as the words left my mouth, I knew I was gonna regret that. She grabbed my balls and squeezed. “Shit! Ok...ok…” I clumsily dropped her panties, causing her to chuckle as she effortlessly removed her shorts and slipped into her underwear before pulling her shorts back on. She was already dressed in her shirt and had managed to find her boots. As we continued searching for my shoes, a piercing scream shattered the air.
“Nelly!” I raced towards the source of the cry and found her sprawled on the ground. Upon closer examination, I noticed an arrow protruding from her calf. The perpetrator of this heinous act was about to face the consequences. A distinct scent lingered in the air, assuring me that I was dealing with rebels who didn't use poisoned arrows, so I knew she would be alright.
Fucking rebels. Another arrow came out of the tree line at me. I dodged it. “Stay down.” I see the outline of a figure. Oh you are a goner shithead. I run toward the tree line. Before another shot is fired, I grab the man by the neck. I snap it and go back to Nelly. She's got the arrow out of her leg and is already healing.
“Did you get him?” she asks as she wipes her blood away.
"Yes, let's get you home. It explains why Quinn was out on patrol," I said as I lifted her and carried her back to the car, even though I knew she could walk. I wanted to ensure she was okay. "I'm so sorry, I should have sensed he was there."
"So should I have. We were distracted. It's okay. We are still in one piece. Let's just get home and speak with the rebel leader to see if we can end this," she said.
"I'll see if we can do it this week."
"Good," she replied. I have the most amazing woman to spend my immortality with. I can't wait to marry her!
