The Abandoned Luna's Journey to Power Chapter 333: She Was Sent There to Die
Cindy's POV:
As soon as I got back to Prince Adam's Manor, I called Viola and Stick.
To keep things low-key, I didn't bring a bunch of maids or guards. Stick acted as the driver, and Viola rode in the carriage with me. A plain black carriage quietly left the Royal Court and rushed east through the snow toward Niall's territory.
Inside the carriage, the cold was kept out by a magic circle, but the mood still felt heavy.
"Diana," I called in my mind. "Do you feel anything?"
"I smell a conspiracy. And a rot-deep sadness," Diana said, her tail flicking uneasily in my mindscape. "Cindy, that monastery isn't a good place."
I looked at Viola sitting across from me.
Ever since we got in the carriage, this normally loud and energetic warrior had been unusually quiet. Her brows were tightly knotted.
"Viola, do you know something?" I asked directly. "Did Fern's intel network find something about Sephiria?"
Viola looked up, gritted her teeth, and punched the seat cushion.
"Cindy, I see the Queen didn't tell you the whole story. Or maybe she just couldn't say it," Viola said quietly, anger burning in her eyes. "Sephiria isn't at Coldmoon Monastery to 'recover.' She was kicked out of the castle and dumped there to die!"
"What?!" I was shocked. "Kicked out? By who? Prince Niall?!"
"By that old creep's mistress—Leanna Redgrave!" Viola spat the name out, sounding both disgusted by the mistress and heartbroken for Sephiria. "Sephiria gave Prince Niall one son and two daughters. But none of them inherited the King's Alpha blood. They're all Omegas. In that jerk prince's eyes—who only cares about power and sons—Omega kids are worthless."
Viola took a deep breath, her eyes slightly red. "What cuts deeper is that Sephiria's daughters completely sided with the mistress. Just so they could live comfortably in the castle and get better marriage deals. They don't give a damn if their mother lives or dies. They've even helped Leanna bully her. They're monsters!"
A chill ran through me, and my fingers tightened on my skirt.
Daughters betraying their mother and siding with their father's mistress? That was a next-level evil!
"If it were me..." Viola gritted her teeth. "If I were Princess Consort and had the power, I'd storm into Prince Niall's castle, whip those ungrateful daughters until their faces were ruined, and skin that mistress alive!"
"What about Prince Niall?" I forced myself to stay calm and asked. "He's a prince. Sephiria used to be his Luna. Did he just watch his mistress bully her?"
"You're expecting that trashy old man to protect his ex?" Viola snorted with sarcasm, like the idea was a joke. "You're giving that garbage way too much credit. He spends all day on booze and lust. Leanna has him wrapped around her finger. As long as she keeps him happy, he doesn't care if his aging ex-wife—who can't give him an Alpha son—lives or dies."
The carriage bumped as we hit a rough patch in the snow.
Viola looked out the window at the dead trees rushing past and continued telling the suffocating truth.
"Actually, Sephiria had put all her hope on her Omega son, Lucien," Viola said in a low voice. "In the werewolf world, Omega men can't fight in wars. But if they're smart, they can enter the Royal Court as scholars or work in administration. Sephiria spent a fortune on the best tutors for Lucien. She was hoping he'd get a job at the High Court or in the Cabinet to at least keep their family's dignity alive.
"But after she got sick from all the stress, Leanna moved into the castle. The first thing she did was fire Lucien's tutors."
"What is Lucien doing now?" I asked. I had a really bad feeling about this.
"Patrol guard." Viola spat out the words like they tasted like blood.
"What?!" I almost jumped out of my seat. "Sending an Omega with no fighting ability to patrol the territory? Making him fight off Rogues and dreadbeast in the freezing snow? That's a death sentence!"
In our world, where rank and strength are everything, forcing an Omega to do a Gamma's dangerous job isn't just physical torture—it's a massive insult.
Leanna's intention to crush him couldn't be more obvious.
"Lucien has the royal blood! He's the King's nephew! Leanna is just a mistress. No matter how favored she is, how dare she openly harm a royal family member like this?" I snapped, my anger boiling over
"Why wouldn't she?" Viola looked at me with a cold smile, with the sadness of someone who had seen how cruel the world could be. "Did you forget where Leanna comes from? Her family, the Scarlet Pack, is the strongest pack in Niall's territory. They control half the mines and all the mercenaries in the east. Prince Niall is a loser. He relies on Leanna's family to rule his land.
"And Sephiria?" Viola sighed. "Just like the Queen, she came from a merchant family with no real power. No strong pack backing her, and no Alpha son who could fight for her. She's older now, her family has no power, and she married a heartless man like Prince Niall. What could she do except get pushed around?"
I fell silent.
The air in the carriage felt like ice.
I closed my eyes, and my thoughts drifted to my own past.
Me and James.
When he returned in triumph with Evelyn. He wanted to demote me to a Breeder and erase every trace of me as Luna from the Duskfang Pack territory. If my Silverpeak Alpha blood hadn't woken up, if I didn't have my father's old soldiers and his fortune backing me up, and if I were just a fragile Omega like Sephiria...
Would James and Evelyn have thrown me into some remote corner to die like a stray dog? My life wouldn't be any better than Sephiria's.
The thought made my chest feel heavy. It even scared me.
"Cindy, stop thinking about it," Viola said, noticing my mood. She reached out and held my cold hand. "You're not Sephiria. You dumped that loser early. Now we've got power and influence. Let's go see her at Coldmoon Monastery first. Worst case, we'll just bring her back to the Royal Court and treat her there."
I stayed quiet for a long time, looking at the endless snow outside the window. Then I said quietly, "Yeah, everyone has their own path. But since I've run into it, I can't just ignore it."
