The Abandoned Luna's Journey to Power Chapter 334: Coldmoon Monastery
Cindy's POV:
After two days of bumpy travel, the carriage finally pulled up in front of an old building halfway up a mountain.
Coldmoon Monastery.
It was surrounded by mountains, and a freezing wind whistled through the air.
The gray-black stone walls were crumbling from the snow and wind. Even the Moon Goddess statue on the front gate was missing half its face. The whole place felt dead and hopeless.
Stick jumped down from the carriage and knocked on the heavy iron gate.
After a long wait, the gate creaked open just a crack with a loud, rusty grind.
A tired-looking maid in a plain gray nun's outfit poked her head out.
When she saw me standing by the carriage, she froze for a moment. Then, her eyes filled with suspicion and undisguised disgust.
It was Katie, Sephiria's personal maid.
I remembered seeing her when I was a kid.
"What do you want?!" Katie's voice was harsh and mean, like rusty scissors. She actually tried to slam the gate shut. "Coldmoon Monastery doesn't want you here! Get lost! Leave my lady alone!"
I was stunned.
I thought Sephiria would be happy to see me, but I didn't expect her maid to be so rude.
My Silverpeak Pack never had any beef with her. Why was she trying to kick us out?
"Please watch your attitude," Viola said as she stepped forward. She grabbed the closing gate, and her strength made it so the Omega maid couldn't budge it at all.
"I'm Cindy Spencer," I said, stepping up. My voice was calm but firm. "I'm here on behalf of the Queen to visit Sephiria. This is the Queen's official letter."
I showed the letter with the Queen's seal.
When Katie saw the royal seal, she clenched her teeth. She knew she couldn't stop us.
She glared at Viola and me before reluctantly pulling the gate open. "Fine. Come in! But I'm warning you—my lady can't handle stress. You'd better not say anything to upset her!"
I pushed down my confusion and followed Katie into the freezing, damp hallway of the monastery.
No fires were lit. It was even colder than outside, and icy water droplets seeped down the walls.
"Sephiria lives here?" I asked, looking at the room. It was barely better than a dungeon. My blood started to boil. "Does Prince Niall seriously let his ex-wife live in a place like this?"
Katie sneered but didn't answer.
She led us to a room at the very end of the hall and pushed the door open.
I was hit by the heavy smell of bitter medicine, rotting mold, and the faint scent of death.
I took a deep breath and stepped inside.
But when I saw the person on the bed, Viola and I both gasped. We froze in place like we'd been struck by lightning.
"I-Is this Sephiria?"
My voice shook. I couldn't believe my eyes.
In my memories, she was plump and radiant, always smiling gently. She carried the graceful aura of a noble Omega.
But the person on the bed now looked like a skeleton.
Her body was thin and dried out, like a piece of dead wood.
Her cheeks had sunk deep in. Her eyes looked like two dark holes. Her cheekbones were sticking out.
Her blonde hair, which used to be thick and shiny, was now thin, yellow, and dry like dead grass on her pillow.
There was no fire in the room. It felt like an ice cellar. She was wrapped in several heavy, old quilts that smelled of mold, but her bony body was still shaking uncontrollably.
Hearing the noise, she slowly—very slowly—turned her head.
Her lifeless eyes stared at me for a long time, as if she couldn't even recognize who I was anymore.
"Lady Sephiria, the Queen sent someone to see you," said Carla, another maid who was sitting by the bed. She leaned close to Sephiria's ear and repeated it loudly. "It's Cindy Spencer from the Silverpeak Pack!"
Sephiria's eyes moved stiffly. Her dry lips opened and closed for a long time, and a weak, airy sound came from her throat.
She didn't say my name. She just managed to force out one unclear word, "Cold..."
