The Abandoned Luna's Journey to Power Chapter 355: She Lost Another Loved One
Prince Adam's POV:
Two days before the Moon Goddess Festival.
The celebrations at the Royal Court had entered their final countdown. Werewolves across the continent were already immersed in the excitement of the coming festivities.
However, Coldmoon Monastery remained sealed away beneath heavy snow and the shadow of death.
Amid the howling wind and swirling snow, the monastery's tightly shut gates were forced open with a violent shove from the outside.
"Cindy!"
I strode in, carrying the biting cold and the swirling snow with me.
Chase followed closely behind with a top-tier life-saving potion Rupert had worked through the night to produce. His face was grave.
After receiving Cindy's mindlink, I had ignored my father's orders. I abandoned the Royal Court's security arrangements and rushed here overnight with my guards.
I pushed open the door to Lady Sephiria's room. The words of comfort I had prepared died in my throat the moment I saw the body on the bed, already covered with a white cloth.
There was no sound of crying in the room.
Katie and Carla had long since cried themselves dry. Now they moved numbly in the corner, quietly sorting through Sephiria's belongings.
Viola leaned against the wall, her expression cold as she wiped down her long whip. A faint killing intent seemed to linger on it, as if the weapon itself thirsted for blood.
And Cindy was sitting in front of a basin of clear water.
She was not crying.
Ever since the night Sephiria passed away, her tears seemed to have dried up completely. Not a single drop had fallen.
Calmly, she wrung out a towel and walked to the bedside. She lifted a corner of the white cloth.
Like someone handling a priceless treasure, she carefully wiped Sephiria's thin, withered face. Then she gently cleaned Sephiria's hands, now so thin that they were little more than bones.
Her movements were gentle and soft, as if she feared causing even the slightest pain.
"Cindy..."
I walked up behind her.
Seeing her so calm, so still, that it almost felt lifeless, a deep ache and fear rose in my chest.
I would rather see her cry like any other woman, even collapse into my arms in grief.
Because I knew that when a werewolf fell into this kind of absolute calm, its heart had hardened into a blade. Every emotion had turned into the purest and most deadly killing intent.
I wrapped my arms around her from behind.
I pressed my broad chest against her back, letting my Alpha heat flow into her, trying to drive away the cold that clung to her, a chill colder than the stones of the monastery itself.
"I'm sorry. I came too late." I buried my face in the curve of her neck, my voice rough.
She did not struggle. She simply let me hold her.
She stopped what she was doing and looked at Sephiria's peaceful face.
"Adam, you don't need to apologize."
Her voice was quiet, without the slightest ripple of emotion. It sounded empty, as if she was speaking about something that had nothing to do with her. "She's gone. For her, maybe it really is a release. She no longer has to endure the pain of her wolf spirit fading and no longer has to face her heartless family."
"It's just that..." She reached out and gently smoothed a stray lock of hair at Sephiria's temple. "She held such a noble status. She was the Luna of a prince and a noble Omega with pure blood. She should have grown old surrounded by blessings. But in the end, she left this world in such a lonely and miserable way."
I looked around the desolate monastery. The cracked walls and crude furnishings only made it more painful to see. Fury burned in my golden eyes.
"Uncle Niall is a jerk!" I gritted my teeth. The muscles in my arms tensed with rage. "He has lost even the most basic sense of human decency. He's unworthy of royal blood."
Cindy placed the towel back in the basin and covered Sephiria with the white cloth again. She adjusted everything carefully, making sure Sephiria's appearance remained as dignified as possible.
"Katie," she said, turning to the maid in the corner. "For now, place the body in the monastery's ice cellar. I will notify Lucien. He is Sephiria's only son. His mother's funeral must be led by him. When he arrives, we will arrange the burial."
"Yes, Your Highness," Katie replied through her tears.
After finishing everything, Cindy stood up and turned to face me.
"Let's go back to the Royal Court." Her gaze was as cold and sharp as a blade.
This matter is over, but the real reckoning is only just beginning.
