The Abandoned Luna's Journey to Power Chapter 352: A Massive Conspiracy
Cindy's POV:
The terrain of the Bloodridge Mountains was extremely dangerous. Poisonous mists lingered there all year round. The worst part was that the mountains bordered the territory of the Vampire Empire. It was a chaotic zone that belonged to no one. King Ryken's surveillance network was extremely weak there.
At that moment, every clue connected together like a flash of lightning.
Princess Margaret had been gathering wealth like a madwoman within the Royal Court. She would even deceive Queen Isabella just to get hold of her private savings. The Scarlet Pack behind Leanna controlled the mines and mercenary forces within Prince Niall's territory. Prince Niall, meanwhile, was eager to marry into the Blaze Pack in the south in order to secure even more financial support.
So that was it. So that was the truth.
Behind everything lay a shocking conspiracy between Prince Niall and Princess Margaret. Using Princess Margaret's funds and private territory as cover, they had been secretly recruiting soldiers deep within the Bloodridge Mountains, quietly building a force powerful enough to overturn the royal throne.
"He's far more terrifying than you imagine. Far colder as well..." Sephiria's voice grew weaker and weaker. Her hand slowly slipped from my wrist. "Cindy... Promise me... Go and live a good life. Be safe with Prince Adam. D-don't ever become enemies with that monster for my sake..."
After saying those words, it was as if Sephiria had exhausted the final bit of strength left in her life.
Her chest rose sharply once, then slowly sank back down.
Her eyes remained half open, but the focus had disappeared. She had fallen into a deep sleep.
"Sephiria! Sephiria!"
I threw myself beside the bed and called out to her loudly, but she gave no response.
I collapsed onto the cold stone floor, my body drenched in cold sweat, while my heart pounded wildly in my chest.
With the last bit of clarity before death, Sephiria had revealed to me a bloody conspiracy hidden beneath years of scandals and rumors.
Prince Niall was not a useless man. He was a giant wolf hiding patiently in the shadows, sharpening his fangs and waiting for the perfect moment to strike a fatal blow against King Ryken's throne.
...
The Moon Goddess Festival, the grandest and most passionate celebration in the werewolf world, was about to begin. Silver decorations could be seen everywhere.
According to the Royal Court's calendar, there were exactly three days left before the official opening of the festival.
At this moment, the capital was likely already filled with lights and decorations. Every street should be lined with totems that pray for the blessing of the Moon Goddess. The air would be rich with the scent of roasted meat and the sweet aroma of malt beer.
Yet inside Coldmoon Monastery, only a day or two from the Royal Court, there wasn't even the slightest hint of the festival. There was only endless silence, and a cold so bitter it seemed to freeze a person's soul.
Early in the morning, I carried a basin of warm water into Sephiria's room.
A miracle seemed to have quietly arrived in this forgotten corner of the world.
When I pushed open the heavy oak door, I was shocked to find that Sephiria was not lying in a deep coma as she had been for the past few days.
Not only were her eyes open, but with Katie's support, she had even managed to sit halfway upright against the headboard, propped up by two pillows.
The frightening ashen color had faded from her face, replaced by a faint flush that made her look almost healthy.
Her once dull and cloudy eyes now shone brightly. They were so clear that they seemed capable of reflecting the snowy scenery outside the window.
"Hey, Cindy."
When she saw me, she actually greeted me first.
Her voice was still hoarse and weak, but compared to the state she had been in a few days ago, when every breath seemed like a struggle, the difference was enormous.
"Sephiria! Are you feeling better?" I rushed forward in surprise and joy, quickly setting the basin of water aside.
Inside my mind, Diana shifted uneasily. She gave a low hum, as if trying to remind me of something. But at that moment, I was completely overwhelmed by Sephiria's sudden improvement. I paid no attention to Diana's reaction.
"Much better. My body doesn't feel so heavy anymore." Sephiria looked at me, and a gentle smile even appeared at the corner of her lips. "These past few days must have been hard on you and Viola. It's a shame to stay here in the cold with a useless old woman like me."
"No, don't say that. Nothing matters more than you getting better." My eyes stinging.
Just then, Carla walked in carrying a steaming bowl of risotto.
It was made from the venison Adam had brought yesterday. Most of it had been given to the nuns of the monastery. We kept only the two hind legs, which had been slowly simmered in the monastery's simple iron pot for two full hours. The oil had been carefully skimmed away, leaving only the softest minced meat and the gentlest nourishment.
"Lady Sephiria, would you like some risotto today?" Carla asked softly.
What shocked me even more was that Sephiria did not retch at the smell of meat like she usually did.
She took a slow breath and nodded. "Alright. It smells quite good. I do feel a little hungry."
I quickly took the bowl from Carla's hands and scooped up a small spoonful. Then I blew on it gently to cool it, and brought it to her lips.
Sephiria cooperated, opening her mouth and swallowing the food.
