The Alpha's Secret Mate Chapter 14: Council 's Verdict 1
Mabel's pov
I opened my eyes slowly, the early morning light streaming in through the window. As my eyes adjusted to the brightness, I noticed that Adam was already awake, and he was staring at me intently. I couldn't help but feel a little self-conscious, and I wondered what he was thinking. I looked into his eyes, and I saw a warmth and affection that I hadn't seen before. I felt a rush of emotion, and I knew that this was a moment I would never forget.
I watched as Adam reached out and gently brushed a strand of hair from my face. His touch was gentle and intimate, and I felt a deep connection with him in that moment. I reached up and put my hand on his, and I felt the warmth of his skin against mine. "Good morning," I said, my voice soft and a little shy. Adam smiled and replied, "Good morning to you too, my love." I felt my heart flutter, and I knew that I was completely and utterly in love with this man.
Adam leaned in and kissed me, and I felt a wave of emotion wash over me. His kiss was soft and tender, and it spoke of a deep and lasting affection. I felt like I was floating on air, and I never wanted the moment to end. But eventually, we had to part, and we both smiled at each other like giddy teenagers. "I think this is the start of a very good day," Adam said, and I couldn't help but agree.
We got out of bed, still giddy with the feeling of being in love. We both went through our morning routines, but I couldn't help but feel like everything was different now. The simplest tasks felt special, knowing that I had someone to share them with. After getting dressed, we went down to the kitchen, and we prepared breakfast together. It was such a simple act, but it felt like something out of a dream. We chatted and laughed as we made coffee and toasted bread, and I couldn't help but feel like I was living in a fairytale.
As we ate our breakfast, Adam reached across the table and took my hand in his. "I just want you to know that I'm so grateful to have you in my life," he said, his eyes shining with sincerity. I squeezed his hand and smiled, feeling like the luckiest person in the world. "I'm so grateful to have you too, Adam," I replied, and I meant it with all my heart. I couldn't believe how lucky I was to have found such a wonderful man, and I couldn't wait to see what the future held for us.
After breakfast, we decided to go for a walk in the park. We bundled up against the brisk autumn air, and we started to stroll through the leaf-strewn paths. The park was bursting with color, the leaves having turned red, orange, and yellow. It was a beautiful sight, and I felt a sense of contentment and peace. As we walked, we talked about our hopes and dreams, and I felt a deep connection with Adam. It was like we were on the same wavelength, and we could share our deepest thoughts and feelings with each other.
As we approached the pack's estate, I felt my stomach twist into knots. I was anxious about meeting the elders, knowing that they would be judging me and deciding my future. Adam sensed my unease, and he squeezed my hand reassuringly. "You'll be fine," he said, his voice confident and sure. "Just be yourself, and they'll see what a great person you are." I took a deep breath, trying to steady my nerves. I knew I just had to be myself and hope for the best.
As we walked through the gate of the estate, we were greeted by the scent of roses and lavender. I took another deep breath, inhaling the fragrant air. We made our way to the main building, and I could feel my heart pounding in my chest. As we entered, we were met by the elder council. There were five of them, all dressed in flowing robes. They looked at me with a mix of curiosity and scrutiny, and I felt like I was being evaluated under a microscope.
I followed Louis into the hall, feeling the weight of the elders' gazes on me. They were assessing me, and I could feel their judgment like a physical force. But I held my head high and kept my gaze low, trying to project an air of confidence and humility. Louis sat me down at the table, and the elders took their seats. There was a moment of tense silence, and I could feel the tension in the air.
The eldest elder turned to me and asked, "What pack are you from, and what is your family background?" I responded with a clear voice, "My family has been there for generations. My parents were both respected members of the pack, and they instilled in me a strong sense of honor and duty. I believe that these values will serve me well in this pack." The elder nodded, seemingly satisfied with my answer.
One of the elders leaned in close to the others, whispering something I couldn't hear. After a few moments, they turned back to me and the eldest spoke again. "We have heard that you do not yet have a wolf. Is this true?" I swallowed hard, knowing that this would be a difficult question to answer. But I knew I had to be honest, so I responded with as much confidence as I could muster. "Yes, it is true. I am a human with no wolf." The elders exchanged glances, and I could feel the tension in the room.
