The Alpha's Secret Mate Chapter 41: New pack Alpha

Adam's Pov

The phone crashed loudly to the floor, but I barely heard it over the chilling warning echoing through my mind from Damien's call. The new Alpha was dangerous...connected to the ruthless Freedom Rogues. Icy panic clawed up my throat as the implications sank in.

Soft footsteps descending the stairs drew my gaze. Mabel stood there, concern creasing her delicate features. Just seeing her slowed my racing heart.

"Hey, you okay? I heard a noise..." She drifted closer, combing her fingers through my hair soothingly. I sagged into her comforting touch, the panic receding a bit.

"Yeah, sorry about that. Just got a weird call that threw me off." I tried to keep my voice casual, but she can read me very well.

Perching on the couch arm, she searched my face. "Must've been some call based on your reaction. Talk to me...what happened?"

I hesitated, hating to worry her unnecessarily. But we'd promised each other no more secrets. Taking a deep breath, I explained the disturbing call from Damien and his ominous suspicions about the new Alpha, Sloane.

"Sloane? is that the new alpha of the pack name?" She asked, her voice tight with tension. "Look, I don't know how much you know about the Freedom Rogues but they're not a just a group of rogues, they are very ruthless and brutal and Damien told me the new alpha is linked to the freedom rogues i told her.

Mabel listened raptly, concern and anger growing in her eyes as the implications became clear. By the time I finished, she was on her feet, hands clenched into fists.

"Let me get this straight—those backstabbing cowards threw you out, but now they want you to come rescue them?" she demanded bitterly.

I exhaled heavily, raking both hands through my hair. "Believe me, I know how messed up it is. But I can't just stand by if the pack is in real danger..."

so with just a phone call from them, you will leave everything and run off to their recuse after eveything they did to you? Mabel said in anger. But the pack is my family and i cam not just abandon them, when they are in danger i said to Mabel.

"Of course not, we wouldn't want to disappoint your real family," Mabel scoffed angrily. She recoiled when I reached for her hand, wrapping both arms around herself.

"That's not what I meant at all," I implored urgently. "You're my family, Mabel. My home. Nobody means more to me than you."

But she shook her head, backing away with deep hurt in her eyes. Before I could respond, she hurried upstairs, a door slamming forcefully.

I collapsed onto the couch, head in hands. My wolf howled inside, hating her distress. I understood her lingering anger at the pack. But refusing to help also went against my core nature. I was trapped, desperate for her to understand.

After an agonizing silence, her soft footsteps returned. She sat gingerly beside me, gently smoothing my hair back.

"We'll figure this out together," she said, voice full of tenderness.

I smiled in relief and looked up, meeting her gaze. "Thank you," I whispered gratefully.

Mabel nodded before standing up with a determined expression on her face. She

"I'm really sorry I got so pissed," she murmured. "I just can't stand the thought of losing you ."

I nodded, my throat too tight for words. We embraced in silence, finally understanding each other.

"You don't have to do this if you don't want," she said after a while. "It's your choice."

I hugged her tightly and placed a gentle kiss on her forehead. With newfound strength I answered firmly: "We're going to help

Intense relief washed over me. I turned my head to press a feather-light kiss to her wrist. "You won't loss me, I swear it. We'll figure this out together."

She gave a faint nod, some resolve returning to her eyes. We sat in fragile silence for a long moment, simply soaking up each other's presence after the painful disagreement. Just having Mabel close helped quiet my racing thoughts.

Eventually I met her conflicted gaze, knowing action was unavoidable. "I should try to speak to Damien again, find out more details..."

Mabel tensed, clearly dismayed. But after an extended pause, she gave a terse nod of consent. "Just please, please be careful."

"I will, I promise," I vowed urgently. We clung to each other tightly, acutely aware of the precipice we now teetered on. My hands shook slightly with nerves as we tried to draw out the moment.

Too soon, she pulled away, perching on the edge of the couch. I began gathering my things with unsteady hands as she watched anxiously. Every muscle was taut, senses straining for any potential threats even within our own walls.

When I eventually turned back toward the door, Mabel rushed up to embrace me fiercely. I clung to her, burying my face in her hair and breathing in her floral scent, memorizing this moment.

The kiss we shared was gentle and lingered with fear. Before I could get lost in the moment, however, she pulled away - her expression all too serious. "You be careful," she repeated firmly.

I nodded, swallowing hard and forcing myself to break away. I had a job to do - and I was going to see it through no matter the cost. My fingers brushed against hers for one last moment as I stepped out into the stark light of day.

The hot sun beat down on me, blurring my vision and making me squint. Normally cooling breezes were nowhere to be found, allowing the heat to envelope me like a blanket. I could feel her presence still in every breath; she lingered there

The thought of leaving her, even briefly, was suddenly unbearable. But neither of us knew how to stop what was hurtling toward us. All we could do was hold on tightly before finally forcing ourselves to let go
