Adam's pov

I parked the car next to the cottage and got out. The sun was setting, casting a golden glow over the clearing. I heard the sound of the wind rustling through the trees, and I took a deep breath, inhaling the scent of pine and wildflowers. I walked up the stone path to the front door, and I knocked gently. I waited, feeling my heart beating in my chest.

I knocked on the door of the cottage, and a few moments later, I heard footsteps approaching. Then the door opened, and I saw Mabel standing there. She looked at me, her face unreadable. We just stood there, staring at each other for what felt like an eternity. I couldn't tell what she was thinking. I felt my heart pounding in my chest, and I couldn't bring myself to speak. I just stood there, waiting for her to say something.

Mabel opened the door and she didn't say anything, but she just hugged me. I felt her arms wrap around me, and I felt a wave of emotion wash over me. I hugged her back, and I felt like I could finally breathe. We stood there for a moment, just holding each other. Then she let go and stepped back, her eyes filled with concern. "Are you okay?" she asked, her voice quiet. I nodded, but I wasn't sure if I was really okay. "I'm not sure," I said, my voice breaking.

Mabel nodded and led me to the kitchen, where she sat me down at the table. She put a cup of tea in front of me, and she sat down across from me. "What's going on?" she asked, her eyes fixed on me. I took a deep breath and looked down at the table. I wasn't sure where to start. "Mabel, it's bad," I said, my voice trembling. Mabel's eyes widened, and she leaned forward, her expression serious. "What happened?" she asked, her voice full of concern.

Mabel looked at me, and I could see that she knew something was up. But I couldn't bring myself to tell her. I couldn't bear to see the look of disappointment on her face. "I can't tell you," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "Why not?" she asked, her eyes searching my face. "I just...I can't," I said, feeling tears welling up in my eyes. "Please, just trust me." Mabel hesitated, but she nodded. "Okay," she said. "I trust you."

I sat there, feeling the weight of what I was keeping from Mabel. I felt like I was carrying a heavy burden, and I wasn't sure how much longer I could carry it. But I also knew that if I told her the truth, it would hurt her. And I couldn't bear to do that. I looked at her, and I saw that she was still watching me, waiting for me to say something. "I'm sorry," I said, my voice cracking. "I just...I can't tell you. Not yet."

I was stuck between a rock and a hard place. On the one hand, I had my duty to the throne, and to my people. I knew I needed to take my place as the Alpha of the pack. But on the other hand, I had Mabel. I knew she loved me, and I loved her. But I didn't know if I could be both a ruler and a lover. I didn't know if I could have it all. And it was tearing me apart.

I sat there, feeling torn in two. I knew I had to make a decision, but I didn't know which way to go. I felt like I was standing at a fork in the road, with two paths in front of me. And I didn't know which one to take. Mabel reached across the table and took my hand in hers. "It's okay," she said, her voice full of compassion. "You don't have to decide right now." I looked at her, and I felt a sense of relief. She was right. I didn't have to decide right this moment.

I looked into Mabel's eyes, and I felt a sense of calm come over me. I knew that I could trust her, and that she would be there for me, no matter what I decided. I took a deep breath, and I closed my eyes. "Thank you," I said, feeling a weight lift from my shoulders. Mabel smiled, and she squeezed my hand. "Anytime," she said. And in that moment, I knew that I was going to be okay. I was going to figure this out, with Mabel by my side.

Although Mabel had given me the time and space I needed, I still felt guilty. I knew I was keeping something from her, and I felt like I was being dishonest. But I also knew that I wasn't ready to tell her. I wasn't sure if I would ever be ready. I felt like I was in a bind, caught between two worlds. I wanted to tell Mabel everything, but I also wanted to protect her from the truth. It was a difficult situation, and I didn't know what to do.

I leaned against Mabel and rested my head on her shoulder. I felt her hand on my arm, her touch gentle and reassuring. We sat there in silence, the only sound the ticking of the clock on the wall. I closed my eyes and tried to let my thoughts drift away. I focused on the feeling of Mabel's hand on my arm, and I felt a sense of peace wash over me. In that moment, I felt like I could face anything, as long as I had Mabel by my side.

As I sat there, feeling Mabel's presence, I realized that I had to make a choice. It's either I chose her or I chose my position as Alpha. I didn't want to lose either of them, but I knew I couldn't have both. I felt the weight of the decision pressing down on me, and I didn't know what to do. I opened my eyes, and I looked at Mabel. I didn't want to lose her, but I also knew I couldn't keep this from her forever.
