Mabel's Pov

I slowly blinked awake, squinting against the moonlight streaming into the bedroom. Reaching out a hand to feel Adam, I realized Adam's side of the bed was empty and the sheets were cool.

I vaguely recalled that i heard his phone ringing loudly earlier, but I had been too exhausted to fully wake up. What time was it now anyway? Rolling over to check the clock, I saw it was nearly 4am. Where on earth would Adam have gone at this hour? I thought in my mind

With a groan, I dragged myself out of bed lazily , running a hand through my tangled hair. Maybe he was just downstairs getting some water or something. But a quick check of the dark, empty kitchen and living room showed no sign of him.

"Adam?" I called out hesitantly, even as I knew there would be no reply. The house was eerily silent.

Wandering back upstairs, I peeked into his home office just in case. that was also empty. Okay, now i am genuine worried, now fear was starting to set in. It wasn't like Adam to just take off in the middle of the night without informing me about it.

I hurried back to the bedroom to grab my phone. Hitting Adam's number on speed dial, I held my breath as it started ringing. One ring, two rings, five rings...then finally his voicemail picked up. I hung up without leaving a message and tried again, anxiety was building fast. Still no answer.

Where was he? And why wasn't he picking up his phone? I strained my ears, irrationally hoping to hear the rumble of the garage door signaling his return. But there was nothing.

The waiting and not knowing what was happening is agonizing . I had to do something, anything. Pulling a sweater on over my pajamas, I headed outside into the chilly pre-dawn cold. One of Adam's security team was always stationed out front. Maybe they knew what was going on.

I quickly approached the guard on duty, whose name I thought was Dillon. He straightened as I walked up the drive.

"Oh, morning Miss Mabel. Everything okay?" he asked.

"Hi Dillon. I was just wondering if you know where Adam went? He's not answering his phone..."

Dillon's expression turned grim. "There was some kind of emergency situation with his friend Damien and his sister. Adam had to rush out on short notice to help them."

My hand flew to my mouth in dismay. "Oh no, are they both okay? Did he say when he'd be back?"

Dillon shook his head regretfully. "He didn't give details, just said to keep you safe here until he returns. I wish I could tell you more."

I nodded, wrapping my arms around myself against the chill. "If you hear from him, please let him know I'm worried and want him to check in as soon as he can."

"Of course, I'll pass that along the moment I hear anything," Dillon assured me.

With no other real options, I retreated back inside, my mind swirling with questions and dread. What had happened to Damien and his sister that was so dire Adam had to race out in the middle of the night? Were they in danger? Hurt? I wished he had woken me so I could have gone to help too. The not knowing was excruciating.

I tried calling Adam again, but it just kept going to voicemail. I left a message this time, hoping he would get it soon. "Hey, it's me. I'm worried about you. Please call me back as soon as you get this. I hope Damien and his sister are okay. I lo-" The recording cut me off before I could finish. I hoped Adam knew what I had been about to say.

With a heavy sigh, I sank down onto the couch, phone clutched tightly in my hand just in case. But the minutes continued crawling by with no word. As dawn's light brightened outside, I gave up on going back to sleep. I just prayed Adam was safe, and that he would walk through that door again soon.

I wouldn't be able to fully breathe until I saw him whole and unharmed. The not knowing was a constant icy knot in my stomach. I stared blankly at the TV, not really seeing or hearing it. I just kept glancing compulsively at my silent phone, willing it to light up with Adam's name.

Come on Adam, I pleaded silently. Please call me back soon. I need to know you're okay. You have to be okay...

The waiting was endless torture. Time itself seemed frozen, each second taking an eternity to pass. Finally, finally my phone began vibrating in my numb hands. I nearly dropped it in my haste to answer.

"Adam! Oh thank god, are you alright?" I burst out asking him.

His beloved voice instantly soothed my worried nerves. "Hey babes, sorry I worried you. Everything will be okay, he said.."

he gave me a brief run down of what was happening, how he was at Oak street trying to locate Rachael.

As he reassured me, I closed my eyes, letting relief wash over me. Adam was safe. But on the other hand i was worried about the situation of Damien and his sister Rachael, i really hope and pray that they are fine and safe.
