The Lunar Queen Chapter 105

Lyric POV

After the trip to Dark Valley I could not physically pull myself away from the pups.

Every time I walked too far from them my chest tightened until I came back.

I played princess with the girls, played race cars with Ezra and the triplets have been sleeping in our beds.

Cole pretends to complain but every night I catch him checking all five of them before he goes to sleep.

Nova would not settle if they weren’t close at all times.

She’s been restless ever since Dark Valley and I know part of it is fear.

Today we are making the trip to the Western Kingdom and much to Cole’s dismay Hannah and Ezra are coming with us.

After what we learned there was no version of reality where I was leaving them behind.

I really struggled leaving the triplets but he would not even entertain that conversation.

After a very serious break down we compromised on us taking Hannah and Ezra.

I walk into Hannah’s room.

“Are you ready to go Hannah banana?” I ask.

“Yes mama, are we going to make the King better?” She asks.

The certainty in her voice makes my stomach twist unexpectedly.

“I don’t know if we can princess” I say.

She grabs my face and looks me in my eyes.

“You can mama I saw it” she says.

Nova immediately goes completely alert.

My eyes go wide.

“can you show me?” I ask her but she gasps and shakes her head really fast.

“The moon said I can’t show you” she whispers.

That answer unsettles me more than the vision itself probably would.

I smile at her.

“Okay, go downstairs and get breakfast we are leaving soon” I say and she skips out the room.

The second the door shuts my smile disappears.

“Selene I know you are listening, we need to talk” I say out loud.

The room immediately feels warmer.

A few moments later a bright light appears before she is standing in front of me.

“Hello my child” she says smiling at me.

Usually her presence settles me. Today it doesn’t.

“What is going on Selene?, why are you showing her visions and then telling her she couldn’t tell me” I ask.

“I didn’t give her the vision child the fates did, I simply told her to keep it from you, but she is still just a pup” she says.

That answer somehow feels worse.

“What is it about this King, why does he seem familiar even though I’ve never met him” I say.

Silence fills the room and she doesn’t speak.

Immediately my chest tightens because Selene only gets quiet when she’s deciding what truth to give me.

“You know I would much rather know, you can read my mind” I say to her with a straight face.

She sighs heavily.

“Okay well Kairo is a special wolf he is almost as old as Tabitha but his story isn’t as sweet as hers. He is a Lycan and they stop aging at 19 when they get their Lycan. His first mate died right after he found her and then he didn’t find his second chance mate until much later and she betrayed him and it cost him his entire family and his Lycan went feral and he has never been the same since” she says.

Something in her voice sounds less like explanation and more like grief.

Nova whimpers in my mind.

The sound catches me off guard because she never reacts to strangers like this.

“Okay and what does this have to do with me?” I ask.

Again I’m met with silence.

Cold unease starts crawling up my spine.

“Just say it Selene” I snap accidentally.

She pauses before speaking.

“his first mate carried Eloise’s soul so essentially she was your past self” she says and my blood runs cold and my entire body freezes.

Everything inside me goes completely still.

“Because you all have had the same wolf every time she was reborn he feels so familiar” she says gently.

Nova suddenly goes impossibly quiet.

“So what exactly does that mean?” I ask her as panic fills me.

Because suddenly I’m not thinking about Kairo. I’m thinking about Cole.

I want to put up a block on Cole but that will make this reveal worse somehow.

And after everything with Mason I refuse to shut him out again.

In seconds he is bursting through the door and the moment he sees Selene he freezes.

The look on his face tells me he felt the panic through the bond before he even reached me.

“What is going on?” he asks walking over and wrapping his arms around me.

The second he touches me I feel myself settle slightly.

“Selene gave me some very unsettling information” I say softly.

He searches my face.

“What was it?, your emotions are all over the place” he says cupping my face and lifting my head so our eyes are locked.

“Talk to me princess” he says.

There’s caution in his eyes but not fear. Not yet.

“I will leave you my child, we will meet again soon” she says before disappearing.

Of course she would disappear after dropping that on me.

“She just told me that Nova was Kairo’s first mate’s wolf. She was also Eloise reborn. He is also a Lycan so he is actually way older than he looks and apparently I can heal his Lycan” I say.

He doesn’t say anything for a while and he looks like he wants to pull away.

His expression doesn’t change but I feel Zeus go completely still.

Instead he just sighs heavily.

“Okay so what does that mean?” he asks.

I scrunch my brows in confusion.

“what do you mean?” I ask.

“Does that mean he is your mate too since our mate bonds stem from our wolves?” he asks.

The question hurts because I know where his mind immediately went.

I shake my head.

“I don’t think so, he’s already had a second chance mate and Selene didn’t say anything about us being fated. But you are my mate” I say softly.

I don’t hesitate because there isn’t hesitation in me.

“I know princess, I just need to know what to expect when we get there tomorrow. Zeus says Nova may recognize him as a past mate” He whispers.

That sentence somehow breaks my heart a little because he isn’t accusing me—he’s preparing himself.

I shake my head.

“You are mine and I am yours” I say.

He kisses me softly once, then again and smiles.

The bond settles warmly between us.

“I know princess but we can’t control fate” he says.

“I don’t want to control fate… I just don’t want to look up one day and realize something changed between us.” I say

He smiles that beautiful smile I love. “Don't worry princess whatever happens we deal with it together. I love you and you love me" he says kissing me deeper this time, more hungry "Okay now come on everyone is waiting, I grabbed you food to go because we need to get going if we are going to get there by tomorrow morning” he says grabbing my hand.

I’m not sure what any of this stuff with Kairo means but I know I am nervous about what waits for us when we get there.

And for the first time since hearing his name I’m scared it won’t just change Kairo’s life when we meet him but also our lives as well. Whether it's for the better or not is yet to be determined.
