The Lunar Queen Chapter 62

6 min 7 views

Serena POV

Last night I was so close to getting rid of that bitch. So close I could already feel it settling in my chest like a win that was mine. How the fuck could those evil spawns know that the steak was poison. I made sure I cooked it down enough to mask the smell. I did everything right. I don’t make mistakes like that. Not when it matters.

I killed the servant who gave her the plate. Her eyes kept searching mine like I might spare her. I didn’t. I never do. I can’t afford to have any loose ends today. But since my plan failed last night I need to make sure tonight goes perfectly.

I’m so close to having Cole to myself and getting this bitch out of the palace. Close enough that every breath feels heavier with it. I hope she and her bastards die a slow painful death.

I check myself in the mirror before walking out of my room. Tilting my head slightly, making sure every detail is perfect—because today matters. If I am going to play the role of the king’s mate today I need to look the part.

I have on a mint green strapless gown and my hair is curled in loose curls pinned on one side. An outfit fit for a queen. The queen. His queen.

I step into the kitchen of our house and my maid is making breakfast while daddy sits at the table.

“You’re late, we are supposed to be at the palace in 20 minutes. The council has a meeting with the King and Queen before the coronation,” he says.

“I needed to look good for him daddy,” I whine. Because when he sees me today, he won’t be able to ignore me. He won’t choose her.

“Esther take the twins their food and make sure my mate doesn’t need anything,” daddy says. He stands.

“Let’s go Serena, do you have the potion?” he asks.

I roll my eyes. “Yes daddy, calm down everything is going to be fine,” I say as we walk out the door. It has to be. I didn’t come this far to lose.

Tonight I finally get my king.

Frances POV

This morning I woke up in a cold sweat. My shirt stuck to my back, heart racing like I was already caught. Everything has to go right today.

I try to eat breakfast when Esther sits a plate in front of me but my stomach just flips violently. The smell alone makes bile creep up my throat. I shove the plate away slightly without thinking. My nerves have been all over the place for two days.

I’m praying to the goddess that everything goes according to plan. I pray that Serena doesn’t mess anything up. Because if she does… none of us walk away from this.

I call my guards in the palace.

“Hello,” he says.

“Are we all set for tonight?” I ask. My voice sounds steady—but my hand tightens around the phone, knuckles whitening.

“Yeah the three of us are on patrol of the south border and created an exit route to the tunnels when the distraction happens,” he says.

I nod my head slowly. “Good,” I say ending the call. Too quickly. Like I don’t want to sit in this any longer than I have to.

I sigh heavily before dialing David.

“I hope you’re not calling to give me bad news,” he asks.

“No sir, I was just calling to let you know my guards are set to be at the south side of the border between 4:45 and 5pm, that is your window to get onto the territory. There is a secret passage way in the throne room that leads to a tunnel that leaves you just outside the territory. She will be delivered to you from there so one of your men should be there to get her, it is about a 20 minute walk through,” I say.

Each word feels heavier coming out than it did when I planned it. Like I’m hearing it for the first time—and realizing what I’ve done.

“I will be there to get her myself, make sure Serena is ready to do her part because she has the most important role when it comes to tonight. Distracting the king, we are heading out soon, be ready,” he says ending the call.

I release the breath I didn’t realize I was holding. My chest aches from how long I held it.

I sit at the table with a coffee I barely keep down when Serena walks into the kitchen. She struts in dressed in a gown and I feel my irritation spike.

Too confident. Too careless. She has no idea how close we are to everything falling apart.

“You’re late, we need to be at the palace in 20 minutes. The council has a meeting with the king and queen before the coronation,” I say already standing to walk out the room.

She says something about looking good but I’m already thinking about the meeting with the king and queen.

What could they want to talk about. They called a mandatory council meeting.

On today of all days.

That worries me on such an important day.

My hands are clammy as I start the car and drive to the palace, dread sitting heavy in my chest. Like something is already going wrong and I’m just waiting to find out what.

Agora POV

Today David is going to take the Queen and then I will take her from him. Not tonight but soon. Because he was never meant to keep her. None of this was ever for him.

I have not spoken to Seraphina in days and I’m afraid she was caught. The thought flickers sharp—uncomfortable—but I push it down. Weakness doesn’t help me now. At least she knows not to talk she will be fine.

I grab any extra potions David may need to make today be a success.

Ingrid walks into the room with a satchel.

“The scent blockers you asked for,” she says handing me the bag.

“Thank you, have you located the runes?” I ask urgency in my voice.

She shakes her head.

I can’t take her until we do, what’s taking so long?” I ask displeasure obvious on my face.

“It is protected with light magic, making it harder to scry for,” she says.

Of course it is. They always hide what belongs to us behind light magic.

“David is taking her today and we need to take her before she gives birth,” I say grabbing explosion potions, my invisibility cloak, and a few other potions to help during a fight.

When we get our hands on that pup, nobody will be able to touch us, not even his mother.

If we don’t find the runes all of my planning would be for nothing.

I will try to search the territory of the Royal pack.

I know it has to be there.

If David fails, I fail and I can’t fail. I didn’t wait generations for this just to lose it now.

The witches should be the dominant species, not wolves or bears.

With this magic we will be back at the top of the food chain and not doing the bidding of filthy mutts.

If everything goes right soon the children and the queen will be mine to control.

Because tonight… one way or another…

someone is losing everything.
