Lyric POV

When my mates finally make their way into the dining room I'm sitting with Hannah on FaceTime with Winter.

“Okay Winnie I have to go” I say.

“Are you really not going to tell me what’s going on over there?” she asks.

I laugh.

“No you will find out when we get back in a few days” I reply.

“I hate you, I will talk to you later bitch” she says.

“I love you too, and kiss my babies multiple times for me and Cole” I say before ending the call.

“You guys took forever” I say.

“How are the pups?” Cole asks before bending down to kiss me and Kairo follows right behind him.

“They are good, Winter was calling to find out about a certain Western King” I say winking at Kairo.

“Mama, papa said he might come home with us” Ezra says.

I glare at him.

“I hope he does, but we have to go little guy” I say kissing his cheek.

“Okay mama” he says running over to Josh and Hannah.

“Let's go meet with your council” I say standing and walking towards the door.

“Did I do something wrong?” Kairo asks grabbing my hand softly to stop me.

I spin on him.

“Why would you tell him you might come back with us when you know that you won’t?” I say to him.

The second the words leave my mouth I know this isn't really about Ezra.

“But I said I might, because I will try” he says.

“No you won’t because right now your kingdom needs you” I say turning to walk away.

And that's the problem. His kingdom needs him just as much as we do.

“Lyric don’t do that” he says.

“Let’s just go, where is the council chambers?” I ask.

“Not until you talk to me, they can wait” he says.

“About what Kairo?” I shout.

“About all the emotions that’s coming from you through the bond” he says.

Gods I hate that they can feel everything sometimes.

“I don’t want to leave without you and I don’t want them to have to leave without you but we are and I’m going to miss you” I say.

He smiles and walks closer to me.

“I will miss you too love, but I will try to figure out a way to be with you guys and run the kingdom” he says.

And the worst part is I know he means every word.

“Fine” I say.

He looks at me then sighs and looks at Cole.

“This conversation isn’t over” he says before taking my hand.

When we get to the chambers he stops.

“You okay?” Cole asks.

He nods.

“Yes I just haven’t seen any of them since before that day” he says.

The nervousness coming through the bond catches me off guard. For someone who faced a feral Lycan for decades, this is what scares him.

“Well you’re not alone, we got you” Cole says putting a hand on his arm so we can both calm him.

The moment he pushes the door open gasps ripple out across the room and someone says,

“Thank the goddess our King has returned.”

They all drop to their knees in a deep bow.

Tears stream down Kairo’s face and I push calm and peace into him through the bond and a little from my powers.

The relief coming from him is so strong it almost steals my breath.

He looks down at me.

“Thank you my love” he links me.

“Please rise” he says to them but none of them move.

“Please” he says again, more emotion in his voice.

They all slowly stand one by one.

A woman with silver hair and silver eyes walks over to us.

“Kairo it is so good to see your face again” she says.

“Zena it’s good to see yours as well” he says smiling.

“How?” she asks.

“It’s been decades.”

Decades.

Hearing it spoken out loud makes it feel real all over again.

He looks at me.

“My mate, she saved me” he says.

Every set of eyes falls on me and I smile and wave.

“Hello, I’m Lyric” I say.

Zena bows.

“My Queen, thank you for returning our King to us” she says.

I smile.

“You’re welcome” I say.

As she looks closer at me her eyes widen.

“We all saw you die” she says before looking at Kairo.

“This is not Alora. She is her reincarnated self, but both of them were reincarnated selves of Selene’s daughter” Kairo says.

They all gasp again.

“Those prophecies were real?” someone says.

“Yes very much so, I think that’s why I was a twin” I say.

Kairo turns to me.

“Later” I say.

Because I already know if we start talking about reincarnation, prophecies and twin births we will be here all day.

“We are happy to have you back. Javier did his best but he could not do it all my King and we helped as much as we could with the packs but things have been happening that we could not handle” Zena says.

“Well let’s discuss before we address the pack” Kairo says.

“Oh wait this is my other mate Cole Blackwood” he adds.

They all gasp.

“The King of the East?” Zena asks.

“Yes he was already mated to Lyric and they are both mated to me” he says.

She looks up to the ceiling.

“Thank you goddess for bringing it to pass” she says.

“Bringing what to pass?” I ask.

“This, you three” she says.

“Long ago Kairo’s mother received a vision from the gods showing her Kairo with two mates, one male, one female but we didn’t know why she got it or when it would happen”

I freeze. Another prophecy. Apparently everyone knew except us.

“But if you saved him, then it has to be you two” she says.

“I guess so” I say shaking my head.

“Back to what has been happening” Kairo says feeling my unease through the bond.

“Yes my King, packs have been reporting wolves going missing, or showing up dead at their borders after days of not being found” she says.

I freeze.

No.

“He’s already been coming here” I say low.

“Who?” Kairo asks.

“Alpha Warren of the Dark Valley Pack in the Eastern Kingdom” I say.

“Why would he be coming here?” Kairo asks.

“He’s been kidnapping gifted wolves and other magical supernatural creatures and experimenting on them trying to extract their magical abilities” I say.

“That is how we ended up with Hannah and Ezra. Their parents ran with them from a pack here in the West and they were both killed and they made it all the way to us on their own looking for me” I say.

The roar that leaves him shakes the entire room.

The bond surges with fury so intense it makes Nova push forward.

“Someone has been killing wolves in my kingdom, where is he?” he snarls.

“We don’t know. His entire pack vanished. He used a mix of different kinds of magic to make everyone disappear. We went there a few days ago and it was a ghost town and there was a lab” I say, my voice choking thinking about the vision of the pup.

“We saw a lot of dead bodies of those that were experimented on” Cole continues for me.

Kairo rubs small circles on my hand trying to calm me.

“How many?” Kairo asks.

“I’m not sure my King, but it’s been about three packs” Zena says.

“How long ago since the last reported disappearance?” he asks.

“It’s been about two weeks from the Burning Sands Pack” she says.

“They aren’t missing, they ran” I say.

“The pup they were looking for is Hannah. She’s a seer. Her parents ran to find me to protect her and my wolf and I claimed both of them” I say, my eyes flashing purple as Nova pushes forward.

“So this is going on everywhere?” Kairo asks.

“Yes but we have no idea how to find Warren. That is why we asked to bring all the supernatural world together to create one council for all of us because we are all being targeted” I say.

A knock sounds on the door and Javier pops his head in.

“Alpha the pack is gathered” Javier says.

“Okay we will be down in a minute” Kairo says.

He looks at me.

“You okay?” he asks.

“Yes, I’m fine” I say.

It’s a lie, but right now there are bigger things to focus on.

We move to make our way downstairs and I know now that Warren’s reach is further than we thought.

Even across kingdoms he is still leaving bodies behind.

And even when we think we have a moment of happiness we realize the threat is still lurking.
