The Lunar Queen Chapter 113
Cole POV
“Okay, never should sex be that great,” Lyric says as she lays between us in the bed.
We both just chuckle at her.
“I'll admit that was definitely unlike anything I’ve ever experienced,” Kairo says.
I run my fingers through Lyric’s hair and she jumps up.
“Nope, not getting caught again,” she says, trying to climb out of the bed.
Kairo grabs her waist before she can get far.
“Where do you think you’re going, little wolf?” he asks, amusement in his voice.
“I’m going to get dressed so that we can go meet with your council,” she says, trying to move out of his grip.
“Now this feels right,” Zeus says.
“Are you saying it wasn’t right with Lyric?” I ask.
“No, it was. There was just something missing. It was him,” he says.
The certainty in his voice catches me off guard.
“I never saw us with a man,” I reply.
He growls at me.
“He’s not any man. He’s our mate. He’s the only one you will ever be with,” he replies before retreating.
Leave it to Zeus to simplify something I've been trying to process all day.
“You okay, my King?” Lyric asks gently, brushing my cheek.
I look at her sitting in Kairo’s lap and smile.
“I’m fine, princess. Just Zeus telling me to get over being mated to a man,” I say.
I can feel Kairo’s unease instantly through the bond.
It’s faint, but it’s there. The same uncertainty he’s been carrying since this whole thing started.
I lock eyes with him.
“I accept you. You are mine just as much as she is. This is just new for me,” I say.
He relaxes immediately.
“I get it and I wasn’t going to pressure you or force you to be with me. I would have taken you however you gave yourself to me. You are mine either way,” he says.
Zeus howls in delight at that.
And somehow those words settle something inside me too.
“Zeus accepted you the moment we scented you in that study this morning. Me? I was a little slow to catch up,” I say.
Lyric claps her hands.
“And this is how Fate intended for it to be. Us as one. Not one bond but two connections. We are meant to be together. That is why we are all mated,” she says, tapping Kairo’s hands.
Trust our mate to turn a serious conversation into a motivational speech.
“Now let’s go. We have things to do and no time to do it,” she says.
When he doesn’t let go, she smirks and shocks him.
He jumps in surprise.
“Ouch, what was that?” he asks, rubbing his hand.
She shrugs and smiles at him.
“Oh, just a little electric shock,” she says, running into the bathroom laughing.
He runs to chase after her but she spells the door shut.
“Oh, little wolf, you have to come out eventually,” he says.
He turns to look at me.
“Electric shock?” he asks.
I nod.
“Yeah, our mate is full of surprises,” I say chuckling, standing to walk over to him.
And judging by the look on his face, he's about to spend the rest of his life discovering all of her surprises too.
“Our marks look good on you,” I say, touching the marks.
He shivers and I smirk at his reaction.
“I never thought I would ever actually be marked and mated, so this feels different. Feeling your emotions and hearing your thoughts,” he says.
“I barely heard my own all these years, but i'll admit it’s a great feeling,” he adds.
There’s still wonder in his voice, like he hasn’t fully accepted that this is real yet.
“So you’re not new to being with men?” I ask.
He laughs, shaking his head.
“Nah, and I’m honestly not surprised one of my mates is a man. I honestly thought after my first mate my second chance would have been a man, but I guess Selene and Fate had other plans,” he says.
I shake my head at that. Fate really does have a twisted sense of humor.
“You are right about that” I say as someone knocks on the door.
“Sorry to interrupt Alpha, but the princess is asking for you,” Jaxon says through the door.
“Give us a moment,” Kairo says through the door.
Lyric walks out at that moment.
“You two get ready, I got her,” she says walking out looking like the Queen she was meant to be.
For a second both of us just stare at her.
Kairo growls and pulls her flush against him.
“You look beautiful my Queen,” he says nipping her ear.
She giggles.
“Thank you mate,” she says.
“Oh and I didn’t forget about that little shock, you will pay for that later,” he says playfully to her.
“Oh my King, I do hope so,” she says before kissing him and then walking over and kissing me.
Trust our mate to encourage bad behavior.
“Hurry up boys, we don’t have all day,” she says walking out and I hear Hannah’s giggles before the door closes behind her.
Kairo and I both stand at the door before we both just start laughing.
“She is a handful isn’t she?” he asks.
“You don’t even know the half of it. Wait until you meet Winter,” I say rolling my eyes.
“The friend in the vision Hannah showed me?” he asks.
“Yeah, them two together is way worse,” I say to him.
The thought alone is enough to give me a headache.
We both make our way into the bathroom and shower quickly before Lyric comes searching for us.
When we are both dressed and step out of the room we see Ezra sitting on the floor outside the room.
“Hey buddy, you okay?” I ask him.
He walks to Kairo who picks him up.
“Yes, I just wanted to wait for you,” he says.
The way Ezra naturally goes to him doesn't even feel strange anymore.
“Hannah said you’re not coming home with us,” he says looking at Kairo.
He looks at me then at Ezra.
“If I can get some stuff settled before it’s time for you to leave in a few days, I will leave with you,” he says.
Ezra’s entire face lights up.
“Really?” he asks.
“Yes really,” he says ruffling his hair.
“Yay, because I don’t want mama and papa to be sad and miss you. I will miss you too,” he says.
Kairo’s eyes go wide.
“You will miss me?” he asks him.
Ezra nods.
“Yes papa Kai,” he says before wiggling out of his arms and running down the hall.
He looks at me.
“I’m still in shock that all of this is mine,” he says.
The disbelief is still there, but now it sounds more hopeful than sad.
“Wait until you meet the triplets,” I say.
He stills.
“Triplets?” he says.
I laugh.
“You didn’t see that in the vision?” I ask.
He shakes his head.
“No, I saw the belly and that’s it but not the pups,” he replies.
“Fuck, triplets. Are they like Lyric?” he asks.
“If you mean gifted, yes they are,” I say.
“Fuck, I guess I better get prepared,” he says running his hands through his damp hair.
The look on his face is priceless.
“Mates are you two coming or not? I’m getting some food,” Lyric links us.
We both smile instantly.
It still amazes me how quickly she can pull our attention without even being in the same room.
We walk down the hall towards the dining room.
I thought finding Lyric after all those years of dreaming of her eyes was the best feeling.
Yet being here in this moment with both my mates feels like more than I could have ever imagined.
For the first time in a long time, the future feels bigger than the past.
