Cole POV

Kairo stands and watches her walk out of the door.

The moment the door closes the room feels different. Quieter.

Even though our bond isn’t complete I can feel his hurt at her walking away.

“Is she mad at me?” he asks me moving to sit next to me.

I chuckle.

“No she’s mad at herself for being upset that you’re not coming home with us” I say.

“But why?” he asks.

I go to fix Hannah but he just takes her and lays her across our laps and she relaxes more in her sleep.

Like she already trusts him enough to settle.

“I assume you haven’t heard the rumors about our mate yet” I say.

He shakes his head.

“Being stuck in your Lycan form for decades kind of keeps you out of the loop” he says chuckling.

I nod.

“I guess that is true, but she was mated to the future Alpha of her pack and she rejected him. They had history” I say trying not to upset Zeus with this conversation.

“She loved him before the bond?” he asks and I stiffen.

There’s no judgment in his voice. Just understanding.

“Yes and he loved her but even after the rejection he just couldn’t let her go and when she went missing a few months ago he lost it” I add.

He pauses at my words.

“Wait, she went missing?” he asks.

I shake my head.

“She was kidnapped and we couldn't find her for a while, so much has happened to our mate in these last 18 years more than I’m comfortable with talking about” I say.

Even now saying it out loud doesn’t feel real.

But like always Selene or Fate always have a way of giving us things we don’t ask for.

Hannah’s body jerks up, eyes white as snow.

Kairo moves to grab her and I stop him.

“She’s about to show us something or show you something” I say low, eyes stuck on Hannah.

She tilts her head then turns to me and shakes her head then she turns to Kairo and smiles.

I really wish they wouldn’t use our daughter as a vessel it’s honestly creepy.

She puts her small hands to his temples and his eyes go white.

They stay like that for a minute before tears begin to stream down his face and growls begin to leave him each one louder than the last.

Whatever she’s showing him, I already know I don’t want to see it.

I’m not sure how much he is seeing but when his eyes clear it’s the eyes of his Lycan staring back at me.

I just put my hand on his arm.

His eyes snap to where my hand is on his arm.

"She’s okay and she’s healing, I helped her and now we will help her heal the rest of the way" I say to him.

His eyes slowly go back to their normal blue.

“Please tell me every single one of them is dead” he grits out.

Just as Hannah’s eyes clear.

She looks at Kairo.

“Papa I’m hungry” she says sleepily.

Every ounce of anger he just had melts away instantly.

Just gone.

He looks down at her.

“What would you like to eat princess?” he asks her softly.

“He is going to fit in just fine” Zeus says.

“I wasn’t worried” I say back.

“Yes you were, you didn’t think you could accept him as your mate” he adds.

“You were able to calm him sometimes bonds are more than mating” he continues.

“I know” I say as I catch Lyric’s scent getting closer.

When she walks in both of us look over at her.

She freezes at the door and her brows furrow.

“What happened?” she asks.

Hannah turns and beams at her.

“Mama!” she yells and jumps out of Kairo’s lap and runs to Lyric.

“Hello my Hannah banana did you enjoy your nap?” she asks her.

Hannah nods her head quickly.

“Yes mama, papa Kai is comfy” she says looking back and waving at Kairo.

“Hey what about me?” I ask pouting my lips at her.

She giggles and climbs into my lap and kisses my cheek.

“You not as comfy papa, but you give me good tea parties” she says and Lyric bursts out laughing.

Traitor.

“I’m sorry I tried to hold it" she says "Hannah honey can mama talk to your papas for a second in private?” Lyric asks Hannah.

She smiles.

“Okay mama, I will go find Ezra” she says running out of the office.

“Joshua is waiting outside the room for her” Lyric says.

We both nod.

“What’s going on princess?” I ask.

“What happened?” she asks again.

“We were talking about Mason and then Hannah woke up as a vessel I think and she showed him everything I believe” I say softly.

She stumbles back slightly like my words physically hit her.

“He-he saw everything about me? Like everything?” she asks.

Her eyes snap to his and it’s like she can read the answer on his face.

She looks up.

“Why Selene?” she whispers.

“Princess” I say softly.

“Talk to us” I add.

“He SAW everything Cole” she says locking eyes with me and my body freezes with the realization.

Everything she’d been through I saw the aftermath of it but him— he saw it happening.

“Lyric” Kairo says gently.

Her eyes snap back to him.

“It’s—”

He says and it’s all he gets out before she puts her hand up.

“Please don’t say it’s okay, I know it is but I didn’t want either of you to ever SEE it. It’s horrible what she did to me, what she had them do to me and then David” she says voice choking.

She shakes her head like she’s trying to shake the memories from her head and next thing I know both of us are standing and walking over to her.

Kairo takes her right hand and I take her left.

She looks up and between both of us.

“This is so unfair that the gods would pair me with two of the tallest mates ever” she says between sniffles.

We laugh at that.

Of course she would say something ridiculous while crying.

He lightly brushes her cheek.

“I wasn’t going to say it’s okay. I was going to say it’s not your fault that you went through any of that and I’m sorry you went through it. You are a very strong individual to have survived all of that without your wolf” he says cupping her cheek.

He wipes the tears that begin to fall.

His voice doesn’t sound sad. It sounds proud.

“You don’t just have me anymore princess, you got us and we got you” I say.

She looks at me and then at Kairo.

It’s like she remembers why she walked out in the first place and she steps back from us.

“No I don’t because he’s staying here” she says.

“Lyric” he says gently.

“What?” she snaps.

He looks at me and I shake my head.

“Nope not my fight” I say smiling at him and he rolls his eyes.

“Actually I’m going to go find our daughter and get some food in her” I say smiling.

I kiss Lyric and pat Kairo on the shoulder and walk out of the office.

I’m honestly shocked at how I’m not jealous or scared about him being alone with her.

“That’s because you accept him for who he is to you” Zeus says.

I guess he’s right and I did accept tthat regardless of feelings he is still our mate.

Fate said he was always supposed to be here so how could I not accept it right?

And weirdly enough I’m realizing that accepting him doesn’t feel like making room. It feels like noticing he was always supposed to be standing there.
