Alpha Cameron's Vengeful Mate Chapter 32
While I’m standing there, a group of kids run in past the window on their way to the training grounds. They look so happy teasing and laughing with one another as they run to their destination. Looking at them makes me remember how things were before my parents died. That used to be me and Amelia and Mark and a few others. We weren’t going to training, but we’d run to the playground that was built for all the pack children. Things were so much simpler back then and I wish I could go back to that happy time.
During my walk down memory lane, I didn’t notice that Cameron had entered the room until I looked up and saw his reflection in the window. He didn’t say anything to me, but he had a look on his face that I couldn’t place. I knew he wasn’t angry because I didn’t feel it through our bond. He seemed to be a bit confused about something. Choosing to not let it get to me, I walk to one of the chairs in front of his desk and take a seat while we wait for Talon and Caroline to show up.
After a few more minutes of waiting, they knock on the door and he tells them to enter. Caroline takes the other chair and Talon stands next to Cameron. Nobody says anything for a while as Cameron is reading over some document before he signs and then Talon signs as well. Caroline and I sit in silence but I can tell that she’s wondering why we are here as well. The waiting is starting to make me more anxious by the second, but before I could ask why we are here, Cameron clears his throat before straightening up in his chair and looking dead at me.
“I’ve asked you all here because we’re the only ones other than Trinity that knows Tiyanna is my mate and for now we need to keep it that way, but if she’s going to stay then we need to make her a member of the pack. She’s starting to smell like a rogue and that is making the others nervous. Now, it is completely up to you whether you stay or go, but it seemed as if your wolf wants to stay. If you don’t want to be a member then Talon will take you wherever you needed to go today and that will be the end of things, after the rejection of course.”
“Maybe take a few days to think it over. I know that Caroline and I wouldn’t mind getting to know you better as well as Luna Marla and Sierra. Most of the members are curious about you and want to talk to you. Well, the males more than the females.” says Talon and a low growl comes from Cameron that makes him chuckle.
“That sounds like a good idea. Take a few days to get to know us and then make your decision. I'm sure you’ll love it here once you get to know us.” said Caroline.
Everyone in the room is looking at me and I know they are waiting for my answer, but I don’t know what to say. He doesn’t want me one minute and the next he’s telling me that I can be a member of his pack. My problem is the mate bond. The longer we stay around each other, the harder it will be to stay away from each other. I’ve already had one heat episode and that will only increase the more we are around each other as well. Honestly, I have no idea what to do and I can’t ask my wolf because I already know her answer. “Stay with mate.” she says and then goes silent again.
“Well, what’s your answer?” asks Cameron as he is looking dead in my eyes.
“If I agree to stay here until I can make a decision there will be some ground rules.”
“Okay, lets hear them.” he says.
“Nobody is to try to pressure me into staying. I want to make this decision on my own without any provocation from anyone. Make your sister and mother aware of this because I feel like they are going to be the main ones trying to talk me into staying.”
“No problem. What else?” he says.
“I’m allowed to train while I’m here and I want Talon to train me as he is the only person I know here. I’ll be more comfortable with him for now.”
“That’s fine with me if Talon doesn’t have any objections.” he says.
“I’m good with training you.” says Talon.
“One more thing, and this is the most important one. If at any time this rule is broken, I’m leaving without looking back. Keep Trinity in line. I know that it is impossible to avoid her completely while I’m here, but if we are in the same room, then I expect her to act like she has some sense. We don’t need to speak to each other but she will respect me and I’ll do the same. I don’t have to like her to be cordial.” I say to them.
“Your rules sound reasonable. I have no objections.”
“Alpha, how are we going to go the last one? You know how Trinity is and the only time she acts half-way decent is when you’re around. You’re going to be away in a few days and that’s when she really gets out of control.” said Talon.
“He’s right. She treats everyone like crap when you’re gone and if anyone says anything back to her, she runs to you and lies about what happened. You saw that first hand with Tiyanna. I know you had to have smelled that shirt, because I caught the smell on Tiyanna when she came inside that night. She’s a horrible person.” said Caroline.
“I’ll take care of her so don’t worry about that. I’ve been thinking of sending her away lately.” said Cameron.
“Okay if my terms are good with you then I will stay for a few days until I make my decision. Talon, can we get going now? I need to get to my lawyer in the next couple of hours or reschedule and I’d rather get this over with now.”
“Sure. I’ll get the car and meet you out front.” he says before leaving the room.
“Well, I’m off to meet your mother and sister for breakfast and then we’re going into town for a spa day. I’ll see you guys later. Good day Alpha and Tiyanna.” she bows slightly to him before leaving with a bright smile on her face.
I turned to leave but then stopped and turned back to face him. He had already sat down in his chair and begun looking over another document. I didn’t want to disturb him but I needed to say this to him while I had the nerve.
“Cameron?”
“Hmm?” he says never talking his eyes off of the document.
“Do you really want me here just as a pack member or do you also want me as your mate?”
“Does it really matter which one I want?” he says looking up at me.
“Yeah, it kind of does.”
“Honestly, I’m still not sure about having a mate. You’d be a great asset as a pack member, but I’m not thinking about the mate thing too much. As you’ve noticed, I have a very large pack to manage and have just added your old pack to that, so dealing with a mate is not my main concern right now.” he says. I look away from him so that he doesn’t see the hurt in my eyes.
“I guess that makes sense. A mate would just get in the way right.” I say sarcastically as I walk out of the room.
